Serenity by Jan
|
Win 10 - 9 |

Both corners came out punching in the opening rounds of the Downtown championship Thursday night, plating one apiece in each of the first two innings. Slowly and steadily, however, Serenity by Jan began to pull ahead, kicking in six runs in the third through sixth innings, while holding Booze on First to just three in the same period. Entering the seventh with all the momentum and a comfortable lead, Jan ran across one more insurance run to put themselves up nine to five. Booze on First, down to their last three outs and needing four runs to force extra innings, shortened their swings and began chipping away at the presumptive champions with a flurry of singles. In no time Booze had small-balled their way into a tie with Jan. Up stepped Jenella Young with just one out and the winning run on third. She grounded, seemingly harmlessly, back to the pitcher who looked to third and decided to take a chance on the throw to first where he narrowly forced out Young. Continuing the trend of aggressive base running so firmly established in the first, the runner on third bolted with the throw from the mound, beating the return toss from first, capping Booze on First's remarkable five run, come-from-behind victory.
Jenella Young capped Booze on First's improbable come-from-behind win with a walk-off ground-out to the mound, allowing the winning run to score from third.
Azar had the most awesome play, it was a sight to see. He dove to catch a pop fly, then turned it into a double play to third while still sprawled out on the ground. He really knows how to show of some those awesome kickball skills!
Clark's homer to left got the scoring kicked off in this close, contentious battle. Both sides made a strong case for themselves, but ultimately Booze on First's ability to keep an even keel in the tense late innings produced a two run lead in the top of the seventh, and from there it was just defense as usual to secure the first round victory.
