The Monkey Lovers have had their share of ups and downs throughout the years in USL Volleyball, but this past Wednesday was definitely the culmination of one of their greatest triumphs. Led by Antezana and Rob Trickett, the Monkey Lovers were not beaten in a single game throughout a dominating playoff run. Their chemistry was flawless, in spite of many lineup changes throughout the season. Next up is the summer league, which promises to be a tougher schedule to navigate as there are 9 more teams to deal with, and more heavy hitters joining in from the indoor leagues.
Luis Antezana, better known as Lou by most of his counterparts, had been the heart of the Monkey Lovers throughout the years. Lou's leadership paid great dividends throughout the season, and particularly in the playoffs. Lou, along with Rob Trickett, led the way for the Monkey Lovers in three straight set matches in their playoff run to glory. Their awesome kills and spectacular sets, and wicked dives were overwhelming to the competition.
Rob Trickett dominated everywhere on Wednesday night, leading the Monkey Lovers to another victory. His huge blocks, swift serves, and vicious kills were overwhelming to his opponents.
With perfectly placed serves on an unforgiving and windy night, Jana Flannery is clearly our Player of the Week! Despite the harsh winds, Jana played with finesse and made sure that her teammates always had a perfect set to kill. Instead of the winds diminishing her perfect touch, they highlighted her impressive skills! Jana adapted to the elements, and was a critical factor in her team's undefeated evening- nice work!
