Thursday night's performance was a typical game for Who's the boss. The team started out slowly and finished with a bang. Before getting into the championship, let's recap the playoffs on this night.
The first game was a bit of a surprise. Dub state, ranked number one all season with their explosive offense and great athletes, were upset by the blue collar like Silly Midgets. At the outset, Silly Midgets capitalized on several tipped ball interceptions. In a business like manner, they marched down the field and scored with ease. Dub State was not worried at the outset nor did they seem worried after another quick interception that had them down by two scores. Close to the half, Dub State got it going with a quick strike to their best receiver who zipped down the field past several defenders for the score. Then at right before half, an acrobatic catch by another great receiver of theirs brought the game within reach. The
audience, great crowd, cheered at the marvelous catch. It seemed like Dub State had some momentum but, they could not overcome the early turnovers and tipped passes. In the end, another turnover sealed the victory for the
underdogs!
With the knowledge that Dub State lost earlier, Who's the Boss went to work! DC Knights had some early turnovers as well and Who's the Boss capitalized. Led by their competitive quarterback, Who's the Boss scored quick and often. Their defense was stifling and it seemed that DC Knights could not get their offense going at all. Contrastingly, it seemed like Who's the Boss' offense was so precise that we were witnessing a New England Patriots type
performance on the flag football field. Who's the Boss kept coming up with drives, touchdowns and plays and I could tell DC Knights were concerned about the time left on the clock. Who's the Boss would not be denied their
chance for the championship.
With the two teams set, the championship was next. We figured the beginning of the game would be close and it was. Silly Midgets kept their heads down and played great in the first few moments of the first half. Who's the Boss
seemed 'as cool as the other side of the pillow (Thanks Stu Scott)!' Once again, their fierce competitor barked out signals and coordinated a flawless game plan. They began to march down the field and score. The team came up with great defense and key interceptions in the second half and began to pull away. To the credit of Silly Midgets, they moved the ball well but could not convert and you have to give Who's the Boss some credit for bending but not breaking when it came time to 'dig in.' On this night, Who's the Boss' intensity and drive would not be matched by any other team. At the end of the game, both teams showed great sportsmanship by shaking hands and Silly Midgets congratulated Who's the Boss. Both teams showed championship level class all season. Who's the Boss walked off the battlefield with the title of champions and sported their champ shirts with pride! Congratulations gentlemen. It was definitely well deserved and a privilege to call the game.
Who's the Boss ?! played the role of Iron Men on Thursday night by winning back-to-back games in consecutive hours in the semi-final and final rounds of the playoffs. Leading the charge was Scott Zellers. Scott was the catalyst in the semi's as he scored two touchdowns, and intercepted two passes, helping his team cruise into the championship round. Once Who's the Boss ?! had made it that far, there was no stopping them, as they rolled to a 28-6 victory over a gritty Silly Midgets team.
