It was a beautiful evening for championship kickball with dogs a plenty and nice weather to boot [the ball that is, ha ha]. My Other Foot took an early 2 run lead but Bag of Kicks struck right back with back to back triples in the 2nd. It stayed close throughout with great defense from both teams--basically catching almost everything kicked. With My Other Foot trailing by 2 entering the 6th inning, they decided to do something about that and it went like this--a couple singles then a masterful sacrifice bunt to advance the runners followed by a monster kick that left the park for a 3 run homer and 3 run lead. They added 2 more after a great bloop infield single set it up and then had crushing defense for the final 2 innings. The key play was in RF when unable to make the catch, the player kept the ball in front of himself preventing extra bases and that was all she wrote as the bottom of the 7th went down 1-2-3. Thanks to all for a fun and very exciting championship game!
Besides catching everything that came his way on defense, Mitch came up big with his foot as well. It was the top of the 6th--championship game and tie score when Mitch came to the plate. There were 2 runners aboard when he launched a high, booming kick toward center-right field--it went back, it kept going and boom! it landed on the concrete past the outfield for a 3-run homer, giving My Other Foot a 3-run advantage and they held on to capture the title. Way to go Mitch!
Great games this week, including an early 5-1 win by My Other Foot Is In My Pants. Going up early in the game, My Other Foot Is In My Pants held onto their lead by stellar defense. One standout player was Rosita Llarena. She not only helped out with umpire calls (or wanted to) but shut down the left side of the infield at third base. She added a couple hits and one run to help her team win their ballgame. Congrats to Rosita for winning this week's Player of the Week.
With her team down 1 run in the top of the 9th, Kristin known as K.J. found herself in a situation where should could be the hero or the goat. Not one to succumb to pressure, K.J. laid a beautifully placed bunt passed the on-charging pitcher and 3rd basemen for a two RBI infield single to put her team up by a run. The go ahead RBI's would prove to be the game winner.
Great games today. Credit Crunch won and lost their double-header games, going 1-1. Indy K#9 lost a close matchup 2-4 and almost pulled out the win. My Other Foot Is In My Pants won their evening's matchup by tallying 9 runs over seven innings (maybe 7.5 innings). Thank you for everyone that showed up to play. Highlighted this week is Matthew Strum. His powerful kicking led his team to victory into the night when the lights of Cascade playground were coming on. Even though it was getting dark and it was getting harder to see, Matthew kicked the ball the farthest of any kicker that night. He kicked the ball right into the playground! (on a couple bounces) With this show of power, his team rallied around him and won 9-0. Congrats to Matt Strum for winning Player of the Week!
