Catch That Crap!
|
Win 9 - 8 |

Catch that Crap seemed for all the world like a team of destiny. Coming into the playoffs as a #5 seed, they upset the #4 seed last week in a fantastic game that earned them POTW honors.
They were up against it again this week, facing off against the #1 ranked Slorollers the OGs. The Slorollers deserved their top billing, looking sharp and jumping out to an early lead. But Catch That Crap just refused to lose. They mounted an epic comeback to tie it at 3-3 at the end of 7, and then stole the win in the 8th inning for a shot at the championship.
In the early game, Lawn Gnomes had a goo, tough matchup with Cannonballs. Cannonballs struck first, but the Gnomes never lost their cool; methodically moving their people around the bases and ultimately just outlasting the Cannonballs in a 4-2 win that put them in the championship.
So who would take the crown? The powerhouse or the scrappy little team that could?
Early returns favored Catch That Crap. Their 8 inning epic that ended just minutes before the championship game, energized them rather than depleted them and they came out focused and ready. They hung tough with Lawn Gnomes long enough, and eventually pulled away later in the game. They seemed to get stronger while the Lawn Gnomes seemed a little frazzled. Catch That Crap were a half inning away from pulling off the upset of all upsets, leading 8-5 going into the bottom of the 7th. In do or die time, though, the Lawn Gnomes did, and were able to dig deep for the three runs to tie it. For the second game in a row, Catch That Crap was going to extra innings.
Unfortunately, this is where the fairy tale ended. Catch that Crap wasn't able to score in the top of the 8th, and with two outs in the bottom of the 8th and the bases juiced, a fielder misplayed John Lorge's fly ball to left, turning it into a walk off single.
Congratulations to Lawn Gnomes for their Championship and showing true grit in coming from behind to win it. Congratulations to Catch That Crap for making it all the way there.
See you in spring!
First off, an honorable mention must go to Catch That Crap- a true Underdog team that played their hearts out and fell have an inning short of a stunning upset Championship. But the Lawn Gnomes earned theirs Wednesday night. First they came back from 3 down to tie it in the the bottom of the 7th, and then John Lorge played the hero with his walk-off single in the bottom of the 8th. Congratulations, Lawn Gnomes. YOU ARE CHAMPS!
