A perfect evening for championship kickball that featured 2 strong teams in what ended up being a very close game throughout. It started offensively with both teams kicking 2 run doubles in the first and moving to the 2nd tied at 3. Kick Tease then took the lead with some strategic kicking including a big sac fly and jumped on top 7-4. In the 4th, Hardball got it going with a lead-off single, a bunt single, then a nice sacrifice bunt to advance the runners followed by a key 2 run double. This continued with a game tying single and then another base hit to give Hardaball a 1 run lead which they turned into a 2 run lead heading into the 7th and final inning. Kick Tease had one last gasp in the 7th but with 2 outs and runners heading to 2nd and 3rd they sent the lead runner home who was tagged out at the plate to end the game in dramatic fashion. A great game to end a great season for both teams!
Darcy played great defense at first base catching every throw that came her way, limiting the number of base runners and leading her team to a big championship victory. The key defensive play of the game came in the 5th inning while Hardball had a meager 1 run lead. The kick was high and twisting towards first base where Darcy was able to make the catch and almost simultaneously touch the bag for a inning ending and run preventing double play. Offensively, Darcy had some nice kicks with an RKI and a run scored but her defensive was what earned her the POTW and deservedly so.
Round one of the Spring playoffs for Cascade Playfield. Mud at Third base and dogs in the outfield and a cloudy Monday evening. Game one went to The Sensual Winnebagoes in an all out offensive. That game decided 21-3. After the playoff play-in game, The Sensual Winnebagoes played game two, but could only muster three more runs and lost 3-8 to Hardball. Hardball got significantly stronger when Aaron Gottlieb showed up. At shortstop, Aaron made incredible plays for outs and at bat he kicked lined drives at least 3-4 at-bats. Congrats to Hardball for advancing and playing great ball and congratulations to Aaron Gottlieb for winning Player of the Week honours.
Good games this week at Cascade. Hardball won both games of their double-header AND they brought Capri Suns and orange slices!! Hats off to Darcy Swacker for making catches at first base and ALMOST HITTING A 3-RUN HR!! This week's player of the week is Darcy Swacker for going 4-6 and just barely missing a 3-run HR, bringing in 2RBI. INDY team K#8 narrowly lost and The Sensual Winnebagoes almost came back to win but lost in the last inning. Again, great close games, but Darcy and her team Hardball won out AND brought snacks. Congrats to Darcy Swacker for winning this week's Player of the Week!
"Big Time Timmy-Jim" did just that and had a big-time performance in the opening game of the season. He had 3 huge kicks on offense, 2 of which ended up in the playground past center field accounting for half of the run production for Hardball. Tim scored 3 runs and had 5 RKIs, all of which were critical in what ended up as a very close 2 run game by the end. His speed in the outfield was also key as he caught everything that came his way, including a running catch in the twilight to keep the tying runs from advancing in the final inning. It was a complete performance and well deserved player of the week.
