On a miserable night, made more for ducks than for softball, the Wunderman Thunderman pulled out a hard fought Championship game victory 14-8 over El Chupacabra. Trailing 6-3 after 3 1/2 innings; a run in the 4th and 8 run 5th enabled the Thunderman to rally past Chupacabra. The run in the 4th was scored on a double by Brice Wenker. The 8 run 5th was capped by Mike Duin's 2 run single. El Chupacabra advanced to the Championship game by slugging their way past the #1 seed Evergreen Escape Geoducks (they should have relished the conditions), 20-15. The Thunderman got there by winning a tight 10-9 contest against Your Name Here.
El Chupacabra jumped out early with 2 runs in the first inning and 3 runs in the 3rd inning. The defense from both teams was outstanding in the early going before the conditions made it a challenge to even see a fly ball. But the Thunderman defense was impeccable the last 4 innings, only giving up 3 runs, 2 of those in final frame, when the game was all but decided. Setting up the winning rally in the 5th inning.
Congratulations Wunderman Thunderman! You were able to defeat El Chupacabra and Mother Nature.
On a rainy night in Montlake Terrace, Brice Wenker's bat and arm led the Wunderman Thunderman to the league Championship. In the semifinal game, Wenker hit a big home run and then threw out a runner at 3rd base to preserve the win and send his team to the Championship. In the Championship game, he had 4 hits, including a 2 run double that set the stage for the Thunderman's 5th inning rally to win the game. In addition to his outfield assist, he played outstanding defense in left field. Nice work, Brice
