Tensions were high as undefeated team, Kickin' It, faced off against highly ranked team Good Practice. Good Practice had just come off a fairly easy match against Google Volleyball, and Kickin' It had certainly kicked their opponents to the curb in the 1st match of the night again Liquid Courage.
Game one started off strong with both teams competing kill for kill, scrabbling to get ahead. Tied at 4-4, back to back kills by Kristen and Kainoa pulled Kickin' It ahead for a moment, before a kill by JP of Good Practice and great serving by Matt tied the game once again. With few errors, great digging on both sides and kill after kill from both teams, the game stayed close. Kickin' It pulled ahead slightly to 9-13 with great blocking by Bobby and another kill by Kainoa, but Good Practice's Tran ran a short serving streak to bring the score to 12-13. The last half of the game had Bobby of K.I. digging like a maniac, back and forth kills by Henry of G.P., Kristen of K.I. then Bobby winning the game for K.I. with an ace! Final score: 21-25.
As game 2 began, it became more apparent that G.P. had just come off another match. Unforced errors rose on their side as K.I. quickly took the lead with a serving streak by Heather that brought the score to 1-8. Lisa of G.P. ended the streak with a kill, but G.P. couldn't hold onto the scoring opportunity as Belinda slammed the ball at their feet. With Bobby digging everything up again, great passing by Chrissy and Kristen and a killer offense by Kainoa, Kickin' It took the upper hand and stayed there. Despite Lisa (of G.P.) setting her offense beautifully, K.I. always managed to pull ahead. Henry served a few to pull closer, and dug and attacked as well -- he was all over the place! Good Practice never recovered from the gap created at the beginning of the game, and Kainoa ended the match with a kill, officially closing out Kickin' It's undefeated season! Final score: 25-23.
Both these teams worked hard and the match was great to watch! All around play was great; the digging was there, the setting was flowing and the kills were strong. Congratulations Kickin' It on another great season!
Bobby's was on fire in the back row this week, especially in the championship match! Good Practice kept firing away at the team, and Bobby kept diggin' them back up! He kept his team happy with his great saves, and allowed Kickin' It to keep pushing the ball to their great offense, who killed it more times than not!
Kristen had a fantastic, fantastic night. She was a serving machine. Her arm was made of steel and made those serves zoom across the net and find holes I didn't think were possible. The same could be said with her offensive. With every spike, hit and push she was able to angle the ball just right to get the ball to hit the floor at all the gaps. Kristen also stepped up and made amazing saves and defensive plays. Way to go Kristen and congrats on being this week POTW!
In her debut match on the team, Jen set her way to the top! With clean sets going all over the place, her hitters were happy campers! The match against Good Practice was intense and awesome, and Jen led the pack with her great setting skillzzz!
