When iHeartRadio took on Hotline Swing last night, it seemed as though nothing could go right for the club in red. In the late stages of the contest, with the outcome decided, Carla Marie (From the radio as her opponents were amazed to learn) stepped to bat. In mid pitch the lights went off and the field went dark. Making her best guess as to the status of the ball, Carla Marie swung and connected, sending a ground ball into the night. At that point, the following occurred:
The umpire started yelling for the play to be over, but this was lost in the din of the the play, so he proceeded to chase after the ball to ensure no one would try to throw it. Carla Marie did the only sensible thing, she ran the bases. And the fielding team, after realizing the ball wouldn't hit anyone, tried to find it, as it had by this time rolled past the shortstop position.
The shortstop eventually found the ball, and sprinted after Carla Marie, tagging her out a few feet from the plate. The game was over, but everyone agreed it was the most exciting and fun moment of the evening.
Russell did it all for iHeartRadio this week. He pitched well all night and hit well too. His three run home run ended up being the difference on the game. In the dugout Russell had high spirits all day and was joking with everyone and keeping everyone, including the umpire loose. Russell really did it all this week and because of that he's the player of the week.
Russell had a great week. He pitched well for iHeartRadio and just as well too. He lead the offensive attack with 3 hits, 2 of which were home runs and drove 6 runners in. On the mound Russell avoided catastrophe when he snared a hit shot right back at his face and ended the inning at the same time. In the dugout Russell was able to keep his team loose with constant jokes and positives reinforcement. Russell really exemplified the Underdog spirit this week.
