The Softcore playoffs pitted the third seated Ol' Yella against second seated team EBK. In this semifinal match-up Steve Fisher of Ol' Yella seemed to be open on every offensive play. EBK couldn't find a player to cover him. Even after Steve caught the ball it seemed as if his flags were covered in some sort of supper slippery Vaseline and although the diligent refs checked his flags and gloves more than once for any foreign substances, Steve came up clean and led Ol' Yella to a stunning victory against the higher seated team. With the sun beating down in 95 degree heat, the more experienced Ol' Yella seemed poised to carry the momentum from the first match into the finals against the fourth seated Tight Ends. In this back and forth battle, with seven lead changes and six tie scores, many players from both teams contributed to each team's success. In true USL fashion the game ended regulation in a tie score and a Kansas style playoff was invoked by our knowledgeable refs. Team Tight Ends started on offensive, scored a touchdown, but missed the two point conversion, so now it was Ol' Yella's turn to shine. They scored a tying touchdown on four plays, but, like the Ends, failed to score an extra point. This time Ol' Yella started on offensive, but failed to score on three great plays by the Ends. Finally, the Tight Ends got the ball and on their second play quarterback Greg Squires ran the ball into the end zone for the winning touchdown, thus ending a marathon of a game and the season for the Yellas. Congratulations Team Tight Ends, keep those booties in shape.
During the final game of the Summer Coed Seattle Center Softcore League, Greg Squires led The Tight Ends to a nail biting victory against the wiser Ol' Yella. Playing quarter back the entire game, and sporting a bitchen handle bar mustache, Greg orchestrated the offensive of the Ends to score 46 points on the stingy defensive of Ol' Yella. Greg's precise passing and timely running kept the Ends neck and neck with Ol' Yella through the entire game. In the overtime Greg took the old dog out back and in true cinematic form single handedly put the bullet in poor Ol' Yella. In their second overtime possession, Greg ran the ball twice and scored the winning touchdown. Kudos Greg, we are in awe of your ability to take care of your own destiny.
