Spiked Punch finished off the regular season in impressive fashion, boasting a 5-1 record. Their only loss came in the second week and have been riding high ever since. In fact, their great play was able to capture the number 1 seed heading into playoffs.
Spiked Punch went head to head with Beaches Be Crazy in their first round. After a tough match up, Spiked Punch was able to squeak by with a 2-1 victory. Battle tested, Spiked Punch was ready to take on the number 3 seed, Confluence Design + Build in the championship game.
Spiked Punch seemed to stumble right out of the gate as they fell behind 4-0 to start out the first set. They started to buckle down and came swinging back. Spiked Punch was able to tie the first set at 9 all and finally took the lead 10-9. After a great back and forth battle, Terrill turned it up at the net. He was able to locate the ball wherever he wanted on the court and began to help his team pull away from Confluence Design + Build. Spiked Punch ended up winning the first set 21-15.
The second set was a different story as Confluence Design + Build came back with authority winning 21-9, setting up an epic third and final set.
Spiked Punch and Confluence Design + Build were going blow for blow, trading off points. Confluence Design + Build were having their way at the net until Emily stepped up on defense. Emily was able to dig all the spikes that were being sent her way, covering ground like no other. Emily proved to be the best pure passer in the game, not letting any ball hit the ground. Whatever ball Emily couldn't get Dan was there to always back her up. Dan was also an amazing passer who was able to get it to the setter as well as set the ball himself. Terrill began to dominate the net again making sure the opposing spikers couldn't get hot again. Spiked Punch started pulling away again at 16-14 when Jenny showed that there was some swing in her. Jenny's location was extremely accurate and she swung like a champ down the stretch. With their amazing play, Spiked Punch was able to win the game 21-17.
Great Job Spiked Punch! A well-deserving team that should be riding high come next season when they defend their title.
Emily was incredible tonight as she showed off her passing skills. She was able to cover ground like no other and did it in fantastic style. Emily popped up the ball perfectly every time to the setter to set up some great scoring opportunities. Emily's performance helped capture the volleyball championship! Great job Emily! Now lets defend that title!
