Mr. Rogers Dodgers completed a great one season turnaround on Monday night, winning their first championship.
In the semi-final game, they went up against Pitch Slap, who they had squeaked out a close 9-8 win against to close out the regular season. This game was almost equally as close, as they pulled out a 14-12 win.
They would meet up with the 4 seed Master Batters in the championship. They would fall behind early as the Master Batters put up 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Mr Rogers was only able to put up two of their own in the bottom of the inning though, as they faced an early deficit. They would temporarily take the lead in the bottom of the third inning, scoring two runs on a home run to pull ahead 6-4.
Their defense wasn't able to hold onto that lead though. They would go on to give up seven runs in the top of the 7th to fall behind again 11-6. Those runs were all that the Master Batters were able to get for the rest of the game. The Mr Rogers defense buckled down and gave some momentum to their offense.
Going into the bottom of the 7th, Mr Rogers trailed and needed two runs to keep the game going. They would get two quick outs before their bats woke up. The deciding hits were made by Blake and Nick. Blake would hit a bases clearing double to tie the game up before Nick laced a single to center field to score a hustling Blake to win the championship.
In a very tight game that came down to the last inning and MRD needing just one run to win it, Jeff Waller sealed the deal with a deep bomb to straight away center field. After struggling all game from the box and knowing his team needed one run to pull off the win, Jeff steps into the box with no one on. On the very first pitch and what would be the last pitch of the night he delivers a deep bomb that Pitch Slap knew was gone from the time it left the bat. Game over, good night and drive safe. Great game Jeff!
