The atmosphere was heavy. The tension was palpable. Actually, it wasn't anything like that- the final week of DOTL in our first season at Newcastle was as beautiful a day as we've seen in DOTL history. The sun was shining, the sky was cloudless, the weather was warm but not hot- it felt like a relaxed Saturday. Meanwhile, two titans stood toe to toe- in one corner the cinderella success story of Indy #1, in the other, the depth filled Mini Tribal. Both teams had finished consistently in the top 3 the whole season, and it looked like it would come down to them at the end. But no one could have predicted this ending.
Through eighteen holes of Putt Putt in the best ball format, on one of the toughest courses around, BOTH teams finished with an IDENTICAL score of 82! Well what could we do but annoint them both champs? Mini Tribal dug deep into their line-up for their trademark consistency, with two mini team scores of 41 apiece. Meanwhile, Indy #1 brought their "just win, baby" philosophy, and counteracted their one mini team score of 43 with a magnificent score of 39.
When the dust had settled, we had two champs who eyed each other with mutual respect and admiration.
Thanks to everyone for a great first season at Newcastle and congratulations to our innaugural co-champions: Indy #1 and Mini Tribal!
It's hard to remember Kelly without a smile on her face the whole season. Kelly and her whole team met each other as indys- strangers to each other, but they banded together to become one kick-ass team, and they enjoyed every minute of it. Here's to Kelly, our league MVP and winner of the fabled Green Hoodie, and to all of Indy #1. They came in as strangers, they left as champions... We're waiting for the movie to come out around Christmas.
For the second straight week, the Indys have cleaned up at DOTL. This week's best ball format worked out well for them, as both of their mini teams parred the course. Don't look now, but Indy #1 could be a favorite to take it all.
