After a strong regular season, the Sluggernauts felt good about their chances in the playoffs especially after grabbing the #1 seed. But their road to the title wouldn't be so easy.
In their semifinal against Pitch Slap, the Sluggernauts lost the lead they held most of the game and needed a furious rally to survive. Erik Yager's walkoff 2 run hit in the bottom of the 7th, sent them to the finals by the narrowest of margins.
In the finals they would face the Lemons, whom they had lost to just a week earlier. The Sluggernauts built up a lead behind the glove, bat and leadership of captain Jansen Dustin. In the 7th inning they had to fight off a late charge by the Lemons, but they hung on and secured the victory. What a fantastic season by the Sluggernauts and its was well rewarded with a championship!!
In order to win the Championship, the Sluggernauts had to survive a battle with Pitch Slap in the semifinals. It was back and forth all day long. In the bottom of the seventh still down a run and facing their final out, they needed some magic. POW Erik Yager delivered. In big time clutch fashion, Erik drilled a line drive to right to score 2 and win the game in walkoff fashion!! Talk about ice water in the veins, congrats to Erik and the whole Sluggernauts team!
After his performance in the game of the afternoon, Anthony was the easy choice for player of the week. After the Sluggernauts got down early, they need to play some lights out defense to keep in the game. So they made a pitching change and Anthony came in and shut down the Upvotes for the final 3 innings. If that wan't enough, Anthony then come up huge in the clutch by driving in the game winning run in walkoff fashion. What an exceptional performance, congrats Anthony!!
