In an exciting championship game that saw one amazing play after another, Bases May Not Be Loaded, But We Are (aka Loaded) needed extra frames to defeat One Kick Wonders (Indy K#12) 8-7. It was slow going at first, a 2-2 game going into the 5th, where One Kick Wonders exploded for 4 runs, aided by a nice line drive kick over the third basewoman's head to score two. Loaded retaliated with 3 in the bottom half, then added one in the 6th to tie the game at 6. Teams remained scoreless until the top of the ninth, where One-Kick-Wonders scored a run on a couple of very nice placed bunts down the third baseline. Loaded loaded the bases with one out, scored on a groundout to first, and Pat A. came to the plate with a chance to win the championship. Pat took the first two pitches, close but off the plate, wanting to give himself the best possible opportunity to come through in the clutch. He lined the next one through the middle of the infield to score his runner from third, and secure the championship for his team he did. The same guy who cut open his face tripping into second base earlier in the game came through when his team needed him the most. A very well played game by both teams, One Kick Wonders had nothing to be ashamed of as they overcame a losing record in the regular season to make the championship game, a true "Underdog" team!
As "Loaded" headed off to the Waterwheel to spend their $50 dollar prize rocking their sweet new Championship t-shirts, they stopped for a moment to pose for an amazing "jump" photo, coming soon to a Facebook near you! Congrats to all the teams in the Summer 2014 Ballard Boys and Girls Club Kickball league!
Jeff had a huge game in propelling his team past the One Kick Wonders on Tuesday. He completed the cycle and then some, adding in an extra double and triple. If he'd had two more times through the order, we would have bet on him picking up the rare 'double cycle'. Great Job Jeff!
Boy oh boy, what a night for Bases, and no player had a better night than Colton. He lined a 2-run home run to left field in the first inning, kicked a bases-clearing double in the second inning, then crushed a deep bomb to center for a 2-run home run in the 4th to put his team comfortably ahead 17-0. All in all, Colton reached base all 5 times he kicked, going 5-5 with 2 HR and 8 RBI to earn this week's player of the week. Congrats!
