Whew-whew! Just like that: Single and Looking for a Ball played a game against Amazeballs and won a narrow 14-13 game, and then went on to win the Championship against Balls Deep in the Outfield with early momentum. A few team players shined for both games as offensive/defensive leaders. Most of those players were women and they did great jobs of getting on base (offensively) and making outs (defensively). Karrah (MVP) was a standout and helped her team win the big title of 2015 Summer Softcore champs! Really enjoyed all the teams this season and so happy to announce our winners of the 2015 S. Softcore championship: Single and Looking for a Ball. They will receive a $75 Underdog Sports gift certificate.
What a day for Single and Looking for a Ball! They won a close match in the semi-finals against Amazeballs and went on to win the championship against Balls Deep in the Outfield!! The team spirit was high and there were great plays for both teams that created a memorable 2015 playoff. With a score of 7-5 in the playoff championship game, Single and Looking for a Ball prevailed with close wins in their double-header. It took a mighty performance to beat out Amazeballs in the semi-finals, in which, Karrah Rust was voted as MVP and Player of the Game by her teammates. More than that, in the close championship game Karrah helped her team win the big one. For winning a play-in game and then winning the championship and being MVP Karrah Rust is our Player of the Week and championship MVP! Congrats to Single and Looking for a Ball on this season's 2015 championship win! Great job!
Brendon Meyer is a true competitor and showed outstanding sportsmanship this week. The guy kicks as hard as the best of them, constantly smashing deep doubles and triples allowing a myriad of runs around the bases. His power is duly noted by opposing teams and often outfielders were told to move back when Meyer steps up to the plate. He also showed great effort and hustle while playing defensively at first, always giving his best effort on foulballs, pop flys and catches at first. His competitive nature, however, does not interfere with his outstanding sportsmanship and good attitude on the field.
In their last regular season game, Single and looking for a Ball won a tight matchup against the Amazeballs 4-3. After the game, Sarah Pitler was unanimously given the title 'Player of the Game' (POTG) by her teammates. Whom could argue? Sarah had a solid three hits/bunts and showcased some of the finest kickball defensive plays this season. Having a solid player like Sarah contribute so much helped Single and looking for a Ball win the game! Therefore, Sarah Pitler is not only POTG, but also Player of the Week!
Two very close games this week at Cascade playfield. Single and looking for a Ball started out the best way, by doing what they know best. Big kicks and timely defensive plays cleared the way and beat a good Redfin team that came to play. April Bockstruck stood out on this day because, while an injury set her back a bit, April kept making defensive plays at 1st base and had timely hits that propelled her team to victory. Hats off to April Bockstruck, as she is Player of the Week.
Player of the Week is for Chad Hersey of the Single and looking for a Ball kickball team. Chad was nominated and won this week for Player of the Game in his team's win against the Ball Hogs.
A great pitching performance and good vibes from the spectators helped propel Single and looking for a ball towards victory. Look for this team to be at the top of the league and especially watch out for our Player of the Week Chad H.
This week, Brendon brought the perfect mix of attitude and skill to his kickball game at Cascade Playfields. Of particular note, Brendon made all of our jaws drop when he efficiently gunned down a runner who was advancing to second after an erroneous throw to first. But beyond his routinely excellent play, Brendon was calm and in good spirits the entire game. When kickball games get heated and competitive (because they do that for some reason), it is always nice to have cool heads like Brendon on the field. For all the above reasons, Brendon is our player of the week.
