Chelan was looking like a pro out on the court tonight. From expert digs to crushing spikes I was ready to sign her to the pros. While it is often that people throw their bodies to the ground for a great save and smack the ball hard onto their opponents court, there was something different about Chelan's method of obtaining these feats.
Her kills were nicely placed and fast flying, something that not every female can do on a coed net. She read the ball like a champ to place herself in the right spot on the court for many crucial digs and dove with grace when the ball flew just out of her reach. I'd surely sign up for a skills clinic if she offered.
Brian Colbo had an outstanding game this Tuesday Night, his tremendous skill in all aspects of the game, lead The M's to a 3-0 victory over their competitors. Though their opponents played valiantly, their efforts to stop the kills of Brian were in vain. Brian shined the most, however with his relentless defense in the 2nd and 3rd sets by not allowing the other team to attack effectively, blocking balls left and right without taking a single break. Brian's teammates finished the game by stating that today's game was indeed the "Brian Colbo Show."
Tonight's player of the week goes out to Lauren for one particular play that I just can't get out of my head. When her teammates 1st pass did not go as planned (to the setter) the teams setter called for help and Lauren effortlessly stepped in. As the ball came towards her, in the middle of the back row, she did a smooth little quarter turn giving everyone the impression she would send an easy front set to the right side player, but she fooled us all. Instead she set one of the most beautiful back sets I have ever seen, and made it look easy. Lauren's teammate took the beautiful set and crushed it on their opponents court for a point. Way to go Lauren!
