Mike came into the gym tonight rockin' an underdog sweatband on his head, I think that is reason enough!

Well, ok, I'll give you more. Mike was on fire tonight with scooping balls out of the net, or inches from the net, and back into play. While on many other occasions these low flying balls would fall to the floor, Mike was not about to let that happen on his watch. He also brought the heat at the net, sending many opponents running from the incoming ball. Mike's team was a little sparse tonight so I didn't get a full view of their skills, but if they all play at his level, they should be some pretty good contenders this season.

Truely a group effort
Truely a group effort
Cedric and the Diggorys is not just a clever pun on the Harry Potter character, but also has to do with the fact that they play with one male (Chris or Cedric) and five females (the Diggorys). This team plays cohesively together and doesn't let their skewed gender ratio, or the fact that they are all about the same height, get in the way of playing some pretty awesome volleyball. They are scrappy and smart which are two key skills in the game. It is also great to see how much fun they are having on the court, while maintaining their competitive edge.

Allison Berry
Allison Berry
The Swinging Elephants
Allison played great, her sets were money and her passing was spot on. Although her team lost, what makes her player of the week is that when Goose's Avengers, the opposing team, didn't have enough players, she voulenteered to play with them until their player got to the gym. Go Allison!

Diggin' Balls
First thing to mention about this weeks player of the week are the awesome high top chuck all stars that she wore on her feet, complete with knee high baseball socks and a great attitude. On top of Bailey's fashion sense, she is a wonderful captain to her team. She cheers for everything, is encouraging and motivating to her teammates and she packs a good punch on the ball to boot. While Bailey's team doesn't always come out on top, they all look like they are having a blast on the court and I give many props to Bailey for that fact.

Notorious D.I.G.
In all of my years working for Underdog, I don't think I have come across a happier player. Nadia is constantly laughing, smiling and high fiving (both her teammates and opponents) when she is on the court. She makes the atmosphere of the gym lively and energetic. I can always count on enjoying the heck out of the match when Notorious D.I.G shows up for the evening, and it is in large part due to Nadia!

Quiet threat
Quiet threat
FOG
Brenda is the type of player who does not come on to the court with the "I'm gonna kick your butt" attitude, but she sure could if she wanted to. Brenda is the quiet threat type that springs into action in just the right moments. Her opponents rarely know what hit them the first time out, but soon learn to watch themselves; both in blocking and hitting. Brenda also has a pretty wicked serve at times and has been known to rack up a fair amount of points for her team. As the league heads in to playoffs teams should beware of what might be coming their way.

Out, but not down
Out, but not down
Notorious D.I.G. lost their quarterfinals match, putting them out of the bracket and out of volleyball for a season. When their opponents chose not to play out the last 15 minutes of their hour, Notorious took that time to prepare themselves for their next Underdog league....Dodgeball. There is a preschool that uses the gym and keeps all of their toys open to the public. All the teammates of Notorious grabbed a ball and started practicing their Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive and Dodge techniques. A lot of laughter came out of the situation and I from what I saw they have some pretty good talent heading in to the season. Good Luck!
