The player of the week this week goes to Tony J. of Pitches Be Crazy. Down 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning, Tony knew that his team had to dig deep to grind out a win. Tony was the hero, hitting a 3 run home run that gave Pitches Be Crazy a one run lead. His teammates would tack on a couple of more runs before turning over to the defense to finish off the game, but Tony's HR was the difference.

CFPR easily won both games of their double header on Sunday. At the same time King James was winning his first championship for Cleveland, Queen Marissa Summers was dominating her opponents in similar fashion. On defense, she was making plays all over the field putting on a literal clinic. Her offensive accolades are even more impressive. With two home-runs and and seven RBI's in the second game alone the Queen's teammates paid homage to her by making her Player of the Game.

In an act of unparalleled sportsmanship, Pitches Be Crazy, who beat The Seattle Seattle Mariners, gave the Player of the Game to the opposing team. Nolan Culver had an exceptional game while also being a class act himself in the dugout. Nolan went 3/3 with 3 RBI's, a double and scored two times himself. On defense Nolan cast his net far and wide throughout the outfield, denying potential multi-base hits nearly every inning. Nolan helped limit Pitches Be Crazy to 11 runs, which as we all know in this league might as well be a shut out.

Brett has a Career Day
Brett Phillips had a monster game in his team's matinee affair against The Wendy Peffercorns, going 5 for 5 on the day and scoring the game-winning run to send his team home in a walk-off victory 15-14. The defensive side shined as well, Brett was lauded by teammates for 3rd base play, and thoroughly deserves to be the Player of the Week at Soundview.

George the fields manager at Lower Woodlands
a legend in our mist
Sunday was a great and beautiful day for Underdog softball, the game where great and action packed and the facilities where in ti top shape. A lot of this comes from the continued efforts of "George" the Field manager at lower woodlands PF. He is a huge fan of underdog sports and really goes out of his way to ensure that the field are clear of garbage, that the infields are watered down and that the bathrooms are open and available. He is one of the reason that lower woodlands is such a great play field. Make sure to tell him Hi and that he is doing a good job.

Overcome Five Run Deficit Late
The Empty Pitchers are once again going to the big dance with their ticket in hand and date set. They had to overcome a five run deficit against their rival and power house Yodeling Pickles to advance to the next round. Down by five runs heading into the 5th inning, they ripped off eight runs to take a commanding three run lead in to the top half of the sixth. After that their defense tightened up allowing no runs over the next three innings. Game, set, match. Drive safe, take care and we will see you next week.

Another League Title for their Collection
Once again the Empty Pitchers have flexed their muscles and showed their complete dominance of the USL Mid Core leagues. This team is a complete and monstrous machine that continues to roll right along unchallenged. If I had to vote on the number one team of all time in the USL softball leagues this would be the team. I have known this team for about eight years now and I have never seen another team to come along that even compares skills wise. They haven't lost a game in two years. How is that even possible in slow pitch softball? Complete domination. Congratulations once again and we look forward to seeing you continue to dominate for seasons to come.

Capture First League Title
In only their second season CFPR has captured their first league title. This goes oto show what a scrappy bunch of players can do when you put them all together. I love how this teams plays for each other and I especially love their grit and determination. They are never mad or shouting at one another when things are going side ways. Instead they band together, play for each other and just have fun. It's not common for a new USL team to win a title this early in their existence but when you have the ingredients that they have and the willingness to fight until the end, this is what you get. Congratulations to all of you at CFPR.
