Spring Co-ed Softball on Capitol Hill Thursdays

Awesome team spirit will often lift a team and get them going. On Wednesday night that rang true. Tiffany's enthusiasm and can-do attitude was clearly motivating and wound up being a factor as Los Bucaneros cruised to an opening night victory.

It was I'd Hit That taking on Where My Pitches At on Thursday night. I'd Hit That jumped out to an early lead, but by the bottom of the 2nd inning Where My Pitches At overtook a narrow lead but they would never look back. In the 4th inning Where My Pitches At put up a 'run max' 9 runs including a hard hit homerun by Jane Sohn! Jane went 5-for-5 on the day with hard hit shots all over the place & aggressive baserunning. It seemed like every time she stepped up to the plate that she'd drive in run after run! She also had some nice 'web jems' at 2nd base to help thwart any kind of a comeback attempt. Congrats to Where My Pitches At on their 29-19 victory and to Jane Sohn, Player of the Week!!!

When George Hancock tied up that old boxing glove, chalked out a field and yelled "Let's play ball" on a blustery Thanksgiving Day in Chicago in 1887, he knew this day would come. Though he never lived to see it himself, he had dreams of someone playing the game so perfectly, so gracefully, that it would come to define the game of softball as we know it. On this day, May 12, 2011, George Hancock's dream became reality. As he peered down from the heavens above, he saw Seth Capistron bat 6-6 and play left field flawlessly. When the game's final play was made, the lights went out momentarily as a light from the heavens illuminated the very place in left field occupied by Seth, as a nearly imperceptible voice spoke, "Hey kid, you were good."

On Thursday night against Project Mayhem, Nate absolutely went off at the plate going 4 for 4 with a triple, 2 doubles and a single. He also batted in 6 runs in what would be a close game until the 5th inning when he exploded. Great job Nate!

As cool as the other side of the pillow, with one out and one on in the bottom of the 7th of the championship game, John Maino calmly stepped to the plate and on the first pitch delivered a game winning shot to right field to secure the championship for the Ninja Turtles.
