Before their match, both Monkey Lovers and Happy Ending met up at Bill’s for a little prefunk party where they all cheered to at least two shots. They were like one big team during warm ups and I was anxiously waiting to see what the games had in store. I don’t know if it was because of the shots or just the fact that the teams are friends, but this was one of the most fun and entertaining matches I have ever seen. Long rallies were shared by both teams with many great hits and great digs to boot. Greame from Monkey Lovers was smashing it as always, but unlike always they were dug multiple times by Happy Ending, Sami & Stan each had at least one I can remember. All of the setters, Mary (ML) & Tina and Sami (HE), were their usual hustling selves and probably have the bruises and floor burns to prove it. Everyone played great, but only one winner can be had and this round, deservingly, went to Monkey Lovers.

Complete with their funky colored socks, SETsually Frustrated marched onto the court tonight to show who was boss against Will Work for Sets. After going 1 & 2 in favor of WWfS during the regular season, SF was ready to even the score and get the title of champions. Unfortunately, the two 6’somethings on WWfS team gave them a bit of an advantage that SF was not always able to stop. Game one went a little quick, but game two was pretty neck and neck most of the way. SF wasn’t going down without a fight and wanted to show that height does not matter. In the end, the height and a streak of serves did the trick and Will Work for Sets walked away with the championship title.

After a rough start to their first season, Losers Buy made their way into the finals match against a consistently present team, Bump, Set, Yikes!. BSY only had 5 for the evening, but they weren’t worried as they work like a well oiled machine. Game one was a bit of a warm up match for BSY as LB gained a quick lead that took them to a game one win. Game two however was a different story. BSY showed their team strength in their hustle and everyone’s ability to play all over the court. LB was holding close and had a determined look to finish the match in just two games. After a short streak, their wish was granted and Losers Buy snagged their first Champs crown.
