It was the second game of the night for Shawn Kemp in the championship showdown with Nice Snatch. Emily got the scoring started in the 1st and put on a bunting tutorial all night. She scored again in the 2nd, part of Shawn Kemp's big 5-run 2nd inning. Boone, in his first game back off of IR, keyed that inning with a blast to center field for a 2-run single and Bobby used his speed to score in that inning as well.
Starting the 5th, Nice Snatch trailed 8 to 3, but finally got it going offensively with Maggie just beating a throw to first and then scoring on Nick's 2-run double down the left field line. Michael followed with a sacrifice fly and now Snatch was only down 2 runs. Shawn Kemp added a run in the bottom of the 5th with Ben sacrificing his body on a huge slide into 3rd and an eventual run scored. It could have been worse for Snatch, but Craig made an amazing diving catch in right field to save at least 2 runs and it was definitely the play of the game. Now was time for the Kempsters to step it up on defense and that was just what they did.
Top of the 7th and up 3 runs it was time for shutdown on D...but Nice Snatch had another idea and all of the sudden it was bases loaded and no outs. Using great teamwork, as they had done all night, Kemp got the first out on a close force at the plate. Jenny then came through with a solid catch [one of many] on a sac fly that closed the gap to 2 runs but also made it 2 outs. Shawn Kemp was looking for that final out and Jeanie, the recipient of all those scorching throws to first in both games, was ready as always. She had played a nearly error free 1st base all night long--and no--that wasn't going to stop now. With the tying runs on base the line drive kick goes twisting towards 1st and Jeannie comes through with the big catch and final out in what was an exciting and fun championship finale. Congratulations to all!
