  The Net Prophets

So Hot You Could Fry and Egg on It

As the #1 and #2 ranked teams after the regular season, it wasn’t too surprising that Net Prophets and Bumpin’ Uglies were facing off for the championship match. After a warm up filled with impressive swings the teams geared up for game number one. Awesome kills continued into the games, but were now matched with equally impressive blocks, and digs. Both teams were scrappy in their defense and quick with a block, leaving unforced errors and well placed tips to be the most decisive points on both sides of the net. Net Prophets took round one with a score of 25-18.
The battle continued in game two with even more kills and thrills. Sam from Bumpin’ Uglies and Mike from Net Prophets were two of the hardest hitters around. They picked their target, aimed and swung away. A fun fact I learned later was that Mike loves to narrate his own kills, Batman comic style; KaPow! Joe (NP) was a silent killer with a number of well-placed chip shots and deep corner pushes. The final shout out goes out to Jessica, Bumpin’ Uglies’ setter. She played a 5:1 and ran the show with her hustle and assists. After another great round of rallies the second game went to Bumpin’ Uglies.
No surprise here that game three was filled with the same intensity and skill as the previous two games. There was certainly a little more eagerness in every ones playing as now there was a race to beat the clock as well. The two determined teams were cheering louder than ever to keep the energy and hustle alive. When the final buzzer sounded the score was 22-19, and it was the Net Prophets who took home the Champs t-shirts.

  Well Served

Energy and Teamwork and Rallies … Oh My!

Schweaty Sets won their semi-finals match in just two games and had plenty of energy to spare. As game one got underway, Schweaty Sets showed Well Served just how ready they were to dominate this finals match. With many aggressive kills and trick shots, Schweaty Sets took a quick lead and ran with it. Well Served was holding their own, but soon found themselves in a bit of a rut and didn’t quite know how to get out of it. A series of points there way brought the score closer, but Schweaty Sets won game one 25-21.
Now that they were all warmed up and ready to go Well Served brought out the big guns and started to show a little more of what their five man team can do. Both sides of the court had tons of energy and were great to whoop and holler at every awesome point achieved. While Schweaty Sets had a great number of point winning plays, Well Served out pointed them. With Bryan and Raj’s strong net presence and the girls hustling all over the place, they were able to secure game two with a 25-15 victory.
Into game three we go where everyone is showing their heart on their sleeve. As a seven man team, Schweaty Sets constantly had a cheer section that kept up the moral and spirit of those on the court. Brian, the captain, was the most animated of all of them, while both on and off the court. On the other side of the court there was cheering, but nothing compared to their opponents. After a great battle back and forth game three came to a close with a score of 25-18 and the championship title going to Well Served!

  Salute Your Courts

All Kinds of Fun

After winning their semi-finals matches Just the Tip and Salute Your Courts faced off for an entertaining and rally-riffic set of games. Just the Tip brought their game faces and a lack of themed attire to prove just how serious they are. On the other side of the court, the 5 man wreaking crew were gearing up for another chance to wreak some havoc. Game one started off pretty even keel with just a slight advantage going to Just the Tip. As the game went on the point gap widened a bit more to give Just the Tip a game advantage. Larry, from Salute Your Court, marched over to his team to give them a stern pep talk before the start of game two.
Game two was a game of patty cake serves with each team going on mini runs back and forth. While serves were consistent it was really the offensive swings and defensive digs that kept rallies going and teams in the lead. On both sides of the court it was the male population attacking and blocking the ball. Andy from Salute Your Courts was a front row animal with his tricky left hand hits and net defense. There was also a great deal of hustle from both sides of the court. People were running, jumping and diving for all kinds of wayward balls, which was not only effective, but very entertaining as a spectator. One of my favorite, though ineffective, moves was Tim’s block where he caught it between his forearms. It was a final serving run by Kelsey from Salute Your Courts that took the score 25-23 and both teams to game three.
Going into game three, Larry’s sternness turned in to jumpy excitement. After every great pass, hit, serve or block he gave an enthusiastic “yeah!” and clapped his teammate on their back. It was apparently very motivating as his team shot out of the gates and gained a solid lead. Just the Tip held on for a little while, but lost their footing somewhere. Kelsey once again came through with a serving streak that put the team at 24 points. Then after a decent rally Andy came through swinging with an awesome kill to win the game!
