Double Headers
Angry Monkeys, Swing Shift Loco
POTW: JJ Edwards
Team Zissou
In the first game of the day where the weather turned out to be unexpectedly perfect, JJ Edwards of Team Zissou also had a perfect day at the plate goint 4 for 4 including a big homerun which has not yet landed. With JJ's help, Team Zissou was able to fend off a late scoring rally by the Angry Monkeys to secure the victory. Congrats to JJ as player of the week and Team Zissou on their big win!

Double Headers
Dusky Knights, Infield Flies
POTW: Chang, Brandon
POTW: Chang, Brandon
Evil Tangents
The Evil Tangents only had 9 players, when Brandon Chang hurt himself leaving the batter's box. He hurt his lower back, but still managed to lumber to first. Though in obvious pain, Brandon refused to leave the game and leave his team even shorter. He moved from playing third to first base.

In the final inning he delivered a huge RBI double (which he might've been able to stretch into an in-the-park HR if he wasn't so hampered by his injury).

Finally, Brandon made a great defensive play at first. A ball was severely overthrown to first, but Brandon neglected his pain, leaping up an coming down with the catch. Although an out wasn't recorded, he kept the baserunner from advancing on the overthrow.

***An honorable mention for POTW goes to Swing Shift Loco's Rachel Han, who burned the outfielders twice as part of her 4-6 day.

Sunday, May 6

Swing Shift Loco forfeited to Angry Monkeys.
Double Headers
Evil Tangents, Habaneros - Indy #1
POTW: Mark Menssen
Infield Flies
In a game where both teams had their strong points, one inning made all the difference for Infield Flies. In the bottom of the fifth, with his team leading 5-3, Mark Menssen stepped up to the plate with a chip on his shoulder. In his previous two at-bats Mark was unable to get the kind of swing he was looking for, but in his third, with two runners on, Mark put a charge into the ball and knocked it clear out of Northacres Park. The three runs turned out to be the difference in a 10-7 win.

Sunday, May 13

Angry Monkeys forfeited to Evil Tangents.
POTW: Rich Phelps
Swing Shift Loco
With the precision of Jamie Moyer, Rich Phelps consistently put the ball in the strike zone so that his defense could do the great work that Swing Shift Loco is known for. Like a surgeon, Rich was throwing strikes on about 90% of his pitches and he wasnt too shabby at the plate either as he went 3-4 with 3 RBIs.

Sunday, May 20

POTW: Katie DiRe
Dusky Knights
It was pouring on Sunday, but that didn't bother Katie. She only got up to bat twice, but got on base each time and came around to score once for a crucial run. Her hits also provided a huge boost to her soggy teammates and helped Dusky Knights bring home the victory.

Sunday, June 3

Evil Tangents forfeited to Habaneros - Indy #1.
Byes
Angry Monkeys, Dusky Knights, Infield Flies, Lawn Wranglers
POTW: Scott Jahnke
Team Zissou
It was hot and dry out at Northacres playfield on Sunday, but Scott was cool, calm, and collected and pitched Team Zissou to the victory. Both starting hurlers were superb, but Scott pitched the whole game and his excellent control and good variety of pitches held the Swing Shift Loco offense in check and Zissou eked out a close win.

PLAYOFFS
POTW: Chris Smithco
Dusky Knights
After participating in a huge nine-run seventh inning rally, Chris came up in the bottom of the eighth with the score tied and stroked a single to left center field to bring in the game winning run from second base. The Dusky Knights trailed all game and at one point were down by 11 runs, but in a true team effort, they did not get down on themselves and stayed within striking distance. Team Zissou should get a lot of credit for sportmanship for not taking extra bases in their half of the 7th, but their nine run lead was not enough and Chris and the Dusky Knights rallied their way to the championship game.
