Summer Co-ed Kickball at Ballard Boys & Girls Club Sundays

Brendan had a game that should intimidate anyone. His base running was something to marvel at, one his way to second he managed to avoid a throw to by displaying his kung-fu ninja skillz. He went to duck the throw, tripped, managed to turn it into a ninja roll and made it safely to second. And if that wasn't intimidating enough as an offensive player, on defense his play was exceptional as well. Playing center field Brendan was fielding balls left and right. On a pop fly, with a runner on second he caught the ball for a fly-out, the runner at second left early, realized the ball had been caught and attempted to dive back to the base. Brendan, in all his glory, runs after the runner screaming like a banshee, the runner dives short, hears and sees Brendan coming at him, curls into the fetal position and awaits the hit of the red rubber... which never comes. Brendan lightly taps the runner for an amazing double play. The runner is forever scarred by Brendan's antics (not really)...

On Sunday afternoon, Jessica Juhl brought everything you need to bring to a kickball game. Good attitude--- Check. Kickball skills--- Check. Dancing Fever--- Double-Check. Jessica spent time playing catcher and various infield positions, but her energy shined the most in her time spent at shortstop. In one particular play in the fifth inning, Jessica fielded the ball and took approximately nineteen steps to move two feet and locate second base. Summoning her best Footloose impression, Jessica jumped, jived, and wailed her way to the bag at second. Despite the fact that she was a second late to make the out, her happy feet provided entertainment for the entire field. She was an excellent teammate and opponent on Sunday, which is why Jessica is the player of the week.

The Hi-Balls had an amazing game Sunday. With a few new players they really came to play. In a close game of 06-05 the Hi-Balls played great. They had some amazing plays at 1st base, catches for outs, force outs, a double play. They were on it!!! Although they lost by one, it was a great game to watch!! Well done!!

The POTW can go to no one other than Gavin. Although he was missing his Superman Cape, that didn't stop him from trying to fly to 3rd base. Gavin started his run after the ball was belted deep. Chaos ensues as the ball is dropped in the outfield and relayed infield. With the ball no where near him, and I really mean, NO WHERE near him, Gavin proceeds to fly head first into 3rd base. Everyone is in awe. One because he did look kind of cool sailing through the air at about shoulder height, two because everyone knew the head first rule.... everyone that is BUT Gavin. He is out at 3rd but still a hero. Nicely done!!
