This championship today was truly a match to hit the history books as another Cinderella, Mighty Ducks, or Underdog story with Blue Kalamazoos fighting hard and skillfully to overcome all odds. This story begins with with first match up against their rival team, who placed just one seed above them in 2nd seed. However this did not hinder our all star team, yet it did the opposite and ignited a powerful fire in the hearts of our stars and turned them into an unstoppable force. With this energy, this team came and used their great team chemistry, skill and communication to win this game fairly easily and quickly. However only more challenges were waiting for them with the final game, against the undefeated champs. This game was an epic 3 set game in which both teams had a real chance in taking home the gold. The Blues, playing a double header, and having the momentum from their last blowout, fought hard with everything clicking like a well oiled machine and beat their skilled foes by a solid 7 points winning 25-18. However their foes, working so hard did not want to just give them the championship, matched the Blue's and took the second set with the exact score except opposite and won 25-18 making it tied 1-1. This meant that the championship could go to either one of these truly qualified teams. This lead to the final bout to be an epic one to say the least, with nearly 20 or so lead change, every point scored or lost was a big hit on each team. However with their true determination pulled through and the Blues took this close game with a score of 27-25. With true skill and heart I humbly congratulate our Underdog Champions of the Winter Midcore league at First Baptist and hope yall join us again. You guys and girls really deserved this win and it was awesome to watch yall play.
Alex Voo played like a volleyball extraordinaire today, in his semifinal match against his higher seeded team. This true underdog team really showed us what it means to truly fight hard and competitively even if the odds are against you. Even with this challenge the Blue Kalamazoos fought this battle with with near ease, only playing two very one sided sets, it did not seem like they were the lower seed however with this disadvantage they fought hard and made it very clear who the champions should be for this league. This 2-0 complete victory could not have happened however without the talent and remarkable skill of their star player Alex Voo. Alex now was just a monster and honestly looked like he could play for the USA olympic team with his skill. With sets that a baby could kill, blocks that not even a cannon could penetrate, it truly is astonishing that their opponents had a chance to begin with. Not only that Alex Voo was skillfully able to serve aces at whim, and kills were basically a gimme with his perfect timing and power behind each swing. Very impressive and super fun to watch, Congrats it was quite a show Blues and Alex.
In today's spectacular game we saw the rising of a superstar, Stefanie Voo really show us her A game. Now though the Blue Kalamazoos had a slow start to their game, as the first set ended and the second began I really started to see Stefanie's star potential.
So with the first set, I saw that the Kalamazoos were up against a strong match up, I knew it would be a struggle to come up with the win. And with that thought, I watched them play a very close first set, each team scoring right after each other, but slowly WeTwerk starting taking the lead. With that the Kalamazoos found themselves 10 points behind and nearing the end of their first set. However Stefanie had something to say about that. With her help, the Kalamazoos went on a run and then took the set 25-23.
Now with Stefanie getting into her groove, all of her talent just jumped out at me. Her spikes were basically insta-points, her serves nearly impossible to return, and her sets were so pinpoint that you could kill it with your eyes closed. With her skills, it sparked something in the Kalamazoos, an unstoppable momentum that helped the Kalamazoos to go 3-0. This remarkable feat was thrilling to watch and I truly want to congratulate the Kalamazoos on their hard fought victory. I am truly excited to watch y'all play again.
