Evan Chinn hit a grand slam home run that capped two big innings, leading Matty's Marauders to the Northacres Field spring league championship. A 7 run 5th inning and a 6 run 6th inning blew open a close game with the Arbornauts. Rachel Huneryager also contributed with a long bases clearing double that "burned" a drawn in outfield.
In other Sunday tournament action, the Sunday School Dropouts beat the Barking Gecko's in a well played game, 6-5. And after Smack My Pitch Up scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th to tie the game, the Evil Tangents won it with 1 in the bottom of the 7th to advance to the next round. Matty's then beat the Evil Tangents 13-4 and the Arbonauts defeated the Sunday School Dropouts in another close game 8-7 to set up the Championship game.
Evan Chinn of Matty's Marauders hit a key grand slam home run to lead his squad to a 20-5 championship game victory over the Arbornauts. Matty's had two big innings, a 7 run 5th and a 6 run 6th that extended their lead to an insummountable margin. The 7 run 5th inning was keyed by Chinn's grand salami and Rachel Huneryager's big double that scored a couple of runs.

The opening week of Underdog softball at Northacres featured a number of close games, but the Matty's Marauders/Barking Gecko game wasn't determined until the 7th inning. Hunter Hughes singled home the go ahead runs to cap a 4 run rally that led the Marauders to the 15-14 victory. Hughes also played great defense that preserved the win in the bottom of the 7th.
