JFK had to brave a difficult path on their road to kickball glory. Their first trial was against Cobra Kai. JFK started off strong by doing what they do best...score runs. They put 3 run on the board in the first and before you know it, they were out to an 8-1 lead by the 5th inning. They used their great defensive skills and some expertly placed kicks to cruise to an 11-4 win.
Their second game was against the top seeded Vitamin R. Having lost to Vitamin R by one run during the regular season JFK was out for redemption, and what better stage than the league championship! They started out the only way they knew how, by scoring runs. JFK jumped out to an early lead and found themselves up 6-1 in the 4th inning. By the 7th, Vitamin R had chipped away at their lead but came up short and the game ended in a 7-4 upset by the lower seeded JFK. Their superior defensive consistency was the key to only allowing 4 runs against this highly potent Vitamin R offense.
Congrats JFK! Three championships is quite the feat!
These two were the 1-2 punch during both games of their double header. Through amazing, rolling, athletic moves by David and nasty bunts and stellar D by Piedad, these two wowed onlookers and dumbfounded their opponents.
David, when asked about his key to success, said, "We beat teams half my age, half my weight, and twice my height." I guess its just pure talent! Congrats on your championship and we'll see you next season!
Piedad Martinez provided a little bit of everything for Just For Kicks in their Tuesday night victory, including offense, defense, and excellent enthusiasm. Martinez took the mound and stifled the opposing offense with incredible pitching, reached base multiple times in her at-bats, and even came through with a few clutch defensive plays. On one play, Martinez even kicked the ball from the pitchers mound and hit the opposing baserunner just in time to get the out. Overall, it was an excellent night for Piedad Martinez, which earns her Player of the Week.
Dina showed some real clout on Tuesday. Playing 1st base like she owned it... and she pretty much did. She had many successful outs, help from her pitcher, to hold her opponents at bay! Great game!!
Greg played his first 2 games of Underdog kickball this week, and he did it with style. Greg made some awesome catches on defense as well as being a huge contributor to his team on offense with his line drive kicks. All in a pair of low-top Converse All Stars. Great games Greg.
