The Freeballers had narrowly beaten Hateful 8 in the regular season, it took a last second INT to seal the victory. The championship game between the two wasn't nearly as high-scoring, but the Freeballers relied on their defense to help secure the win.
After going down 14-0 early after a pick 6, things seemed bleek for the defending Juanita Tuesday champions. They kept their heads in the game, knowing they couldn't score all 14 at once. A TD here, a defensive stop there, and before you know it the Freeballers had a 27-14 advantage as the clock wound down to the final seconds. Numerous big defensive plays helped keep Hateful 8 scoreless in the second half. Defense wins championships, and that same holds true for this season.
Ryan B earns this week's Player of the Week award for QBing in the semifinal and championship game. A strong QB who knows when to run and when to throw is valuable in this league, and Ryan proves that better than most.
