On a chilly afternoon at Jaunita High School, the Ball Snatchers scored a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining to claim the Fall Co-ed championship over (off in the shower) Super Chill.
Super Chill opened the scoring on the first play from scrimmage, as Andrew Kawamura threw a deep ball that was tipped directly into his receivers hands for a touchdown. The Ball Snatchers got the ball and answered as Trever Nesbitt hit Melissa De Roos in the end zone to to tie the game. On Super Chill's next possesion, Kawamura was able to connect another TD pass to put Super Chill up 16-8. But once again the Ball Snatchers responded with a scoring drive making the score 16-14. After that the defenses seemed to take over until late in the half when Super Chill scored to make it 22-14 at half.
At the start of the 2nd half, the #1 seed, Ball Snatcher, drove the length of the field to score and then made the 2 point conversion to tie the game at 22. Super Chill was able to respond again with TD drive of their own on another Kawamura touchdown pass, this time to Anita Kawamura and subsequently made the 2 pointer to go up 30-22. After that score, the Ball Snatchers seemed to take control, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, holding Super Chill scoreless the remainder of the game.
Nesbitt also seemed to warm up in the passing game, repeatedly hitting John Dyess for first downs and then the touchdown that got them within 2 at 30-28. Melissa De Ross hauled in the game tying 2 point conversion.
After drives stalled for both teams and as the clock was running out, the Ball Snatchers were able to drive to the 1 yard line. Then using some fine clock management, Nesbitt converted the touchdown with 14 seconds remaining.
Super Chill's last two desperation passes went for naught and the Ball Snatcher fans stormed the field to celebrate the victory (NOT Really).
It was a well played championship game by both teams, a shame that there had to be a loser. Congratulations to the Ball Snatchers!
"Jaydee" is this weeks POTW as he led the Ball Snatchers to the Jaunita Co-ed title. JD had several key catches and a touchdown reception in the hard fought 37-30 win over Super Chill. Great Job, Jaydee!
In the game of the day between two Co-ed heavyweights, Trevor Nesbitt led the Ball Snatchers over the previously undefeated Newbies. Nesbitt, who is not necessarily noted for his passing prowess, threw for 5 touchdowns. He also added a game clinching Pick 6. Trevor is a stalwart in Underdog football, and this week receives a much deserved POWT. Great Work, Trevor!
Branda Anderson had a outstanding game leading the Ball Snatchers to a 44-18 win over Super Chill. Branda had multiple catches for key first downs. She also made an important interception that stymied a 2nd half rally by Super Chill. Great Job, Branda!
Catherine Dix led the Ball Snatchers to a big win over Back that Pass up. Catherine not only caught a touchdown pass and pressured the QB of Back That Pass Up relentlessly, she also tipped a pass that was returned for a touchdown by the opponent. She was part of two scores, without really trying! That takes talent. Great job Catherine!
