Team McKinstry was firing on all cylinders on Thursday night, as they stayed true to their #1 seed ranking by winning the championship over the Pluckers by a score of 15-7. McKinstry came out swinging early, taking a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning, but the Plukers battled back in the 3rd, tying it at 3-3. The tie was short-lived though, as McKinstry drove in another 3 in the bottom of the frame to take back their lead and never look back. Lauren led the way by popping 4 hits, igniting a key 2-out rally that opened the floodgates midway through the game. McKinstry was a tough opponent all season, and their championship performance confirmed what we suspected all along - they good!
Team McKinstry took home the title on Thursday after a hard fought battle against a surprising contender in the finals. Daniel P. was the series MVP as he clubbed multiple moonshot dingers that had the opposing team shocked at the massive power strokes. Daniel ended the game with 6 RBI in a 15-7 victory in the championship game, cementing his legend status in the Underdog Sports Softball world.
Team McKinstry kept rolling in their semi-finals matchup on Thursday, taking down their opponent 25-12 in a fun-filled 7-innings. McKinstry's starting catcher, Karim D., was slotted 10th in the order, but he must have been the team's secret weapon for such a dangerous hitter to be so low in the lineup. With the game close in the early going, Karim kept his team in the lead with a couple of opposite field home runs that drove in 5 runs. His catching skills were on full display as well, framing pitches and maintaining good communication with his pitcher and infield defense throughout the game.
Team McKinstry were big winners on Thursday evening, winning their game handily by a score of 27 to 6. The bats were alive for this first-placed team, but the bigger story here was the starting pitching. Stephen S. twirled a gem, hurling 5 shutout innings including a pair of strikeouts. McKinstry's bullpen gave up some runs in the final two innings, but by then the game was out of hand thanks in large part to their winning pitcher. Stephen also tacked on a homerun at the batter's box too, for good measure.
Daniel P. brought the power this week, clubbing 3 homeruns including a grand slam to take a commanding lead for his team. He finished the night 4-4 with 8 runs driven in.
