Some think that kickball is a game played w/two teams battling it out. But those people never factor mother nature to be the third team playing for and against those two teams. At 8:00 mother nature brought us sunshine and 65 degrees w/little to no wind. By the time the championship game rolled around, she dealt us a whole new set of cards with temperatures in the mid 50s and 10 to 20 MPH winds. This made for a battle againts defenses, offenses, hooks, and slices. And like in most stories and sporting event playoffs, there was only one team left at the end holding the trophy (or receiving cool ass t-shirts) while wearing nice new hair styles;).
Team Purple, to reach the playoffs, played Toot It and Boot It in their first game who were ranked number one and beat them with a score of 19 to 16 (note worthy - Toot it and Boot it made a great come back in a 2 out rally in the 7th scoring 5 runs to come back from 8 down).
As Team Rehab waited to play in the championship game, the weather turned a bit ugly at least for June, bringing cold winds. Rubber Ballz and Liquor defeated the always tough Entercommies in the 2nd game of the evening to face Team Rehab in the championship game.
During the championship game, balls kicked in the air were flying over the second baseman's head and ending up in left field. Pitches, pitched straight initially, were made into sliders breaking well away from the plate. Just an absolute AWESOME time to be playing kickball. All the while, Team Rehab made great defensive plays and kicked the crap out of the ball winning the game 17 to 7.
Joy proved to be a trend-setter for the nightcap game Monday evening, both in the field and at the plate. Starting off in the first couple innings, Joy made some tremendous plays in left field, helping her team secure a quick 12-1 lead. After some tough bounces to Joy in the outfield, their opponent managed to whittle the lead to 12-6. But when her team needed an offensive kickstart the most, Joy continued to battle away, getting on base with singles and keeping Legen-wait for it-dary! at bay.
By the time the final inning rolled around, Joy promptly shut the opposition offense down with two great catches to seal the playoff win. Great game Joy!
This weeks player of the week goes to Richard Seroussi for his solid base running with the game on the line. With the game all tied up in the bottom of the7th, it was Richard who was the winning run on a lucky kick by the captain of the team. Great job Richard!
This week's player of the week goes to Tony Loveless of the extremely skillful Team Rehab. Tony played 2 back to back excellent games. As a pitcher (first time, mind you), he played bunts perfectly, throwing out at least a baker's dozen between 2 games. Throwing in some sweet kicks and creative trash talking, Tony's gonna continue to fly high in this league. Nice work out there, Tony.
