All season long Tenacious D seemed to never show signs of slowing down, but the real test would come through the playoffs. After strolling through the first round game with a big win, Tenacious D needed to prove themselves in two straight games against two tough opponents, West Canaan Coyotes and Canadian Monster.
The first semi-final between Canadian Monster and Tenacious remained close all game until midway through the 2nd half, when Laura Reff went hog wild on defense. A huge pick late in the game helped her team seal a spot in the championship. On the offensive side of the ball, Courtney Butorac also proved to be a key contributor, snagging a touchdown in the corner of the endzone to run the clock to 0:00.
Meanwhile, Greg Fix and the West Canaan Coyotes were foaming at the mouth after their gutsy 33-27 win over Primetime. With the help of Greg's 2 interceptions, he singlehandedly put the nail in the coffin for Primetime.
With both the Coyotes and Tenacious riding a victorious wave into the finals, Greg Patzner and Rich Getto stole the show for Tenacious D. Guiding their team to a 38-19 dismantling of the West Canaan Coyotes, Rich and Greg combined for multiple interceptions and touchdowns to garner the champ shirts at the end of the night. West Canaan made a valiant effort through the first half, keeping it a one possession game. But in the end, Tenacious D lived up to their namesake with fantastic defense all game long. Great season both teams!
Timely touchdowns and terrific throws as quarterback are the big reason Tenacious D came out on top in both of their playoff games. Heroic plays from start to finish separated Greg from the rest of the pack this week, making him the front runner for POTW honors! Nice job Greg!
This weeks player of the week goes to Matty Mast for his great play at the end of the game. With seconds on the clock Matty put together a winning drive that helped his team score with no time on the clock, and put a "W" in the winning column! Great job Matty!
This weeks player of the week goes to Rich Getto for his excellent work on "D". Rich reeled in 3 INT's and never let the momentum get into the opponents hands. Rich returned one of his INT's for a TD, but did not stop on offense he also caught a TD pass to help his team start the season off with a victory! Great job Rich!
