An electrifying performance by many players on KPG Peak Too Sooners helped them storm to their first championship, but the road wasn't easy.
In the top of the 1st, KPG took the field, only to allow 3 earned runs due to some whopping hits by Just For Kicks.
Not to be outdone, KPG looked to rally back, but after two quick outs, it looked like that be more difficult than anticipated. Little did they know that Just For Kicks would offer some help in the form of a botched double play ball, allowing the inning to continue. KPG took full advantage, snapping off three quick runs to even the score.
Just an inning later, Ben Frizzell provided more fireworks with a double play ball at 2nd that kept the game all tied up at 3.
With the game tied headed into the 3rd, Just For Kicks seemed ready to explode offensively after being stymied the previous inning and explode they did. An outrageous 5-run outpouring launched them into what looked to be a commanding 8-4 lead after the third. With a scoreless 4th and top half of the 5th, the momentum really seemed to be tilting toward Just For Kicks.
But yet again, Just For Kicks defense would come to KPG's rescue, as a dropped fly ball yielded 4 quick runs in the bottom frame of the 5th to tie the game again at 8 a piece. When both teams were blanked in the 6th, the stage was set for some terrific late inning drama. With runners on 1st and 2nd and only one out, Mike Amos ripped a line drive up the middle. Just For Kick's shortstop quickly stepped on 2nd base for the 2nd out, only to see KPG's Sarah Shean ripping around the bases with Usain Bolt-esque speed, crossing home plate for the championship with room to spare!
Great game both teams and congratulations KPG!
In a tight championship game that went down to the wire, Ben Frizzell had no problem maintaining his cool under pressure on defense. With the final score of the game only 9-8, one of the biggest plays of the game came by KPG's nifty shortstop. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, a line drive was hit up the middle that Ben snagged for the 2nd out of the inning. As the runner from 3rd was tagging up, the runner at 2nd forgot to and was forced out by the quick thinking of Ben, forcing a double play and not allowing the run to score!
Great play Ben and congratulations on the championship!
Amy did it all for KPG.... Not only did she get on base every time she went up to kick, but her defense was the talk after the game.. The ball was kicked deep into left field when the left center fielder called for the ball, it bounced off his chest and Amy was there to snag it before it landed on the ground. Easily saving a couple runners from scoring. The next two plays she made were just amazing. Each time, the ball was kicked well into left field but this time Amy yelled loud that she had it and pulled in both off them. The last one was a running, arms extended over her head catch. She has become the the All-Star left fielder for KPG... Good job Amy for playing lights out..
Its not easy to catch a high fly ball that's spinning out of control. Its even harder when you run into your teammate. Spencer didn't make the catch but it didn't matter because it didn't count. He did make the very next catch that did count. Even after running into his teammate he kept on going and scoring runs and catching fly balls. He was a key component in his teams victory. Great job Spencer!
Colby Litzenberger came out with a bang on Thursday night with great defense and pitching. Colby racked up five Put-Outs during the game and had two hits as well. Keep it going Colby!
There were many people to choose from this week as everyone played so well, but Kari stood out from all the rest. Kari was relentless in the field. catching everything that was kicked her way. She made 3 amazing catches to stop the momentum of the team of Krystal Ball. She was even better on offense. Having a perfect on base percentage (with no bunting mind you) and 5 RBI's..... When the other team offers to trade 2 of their players for her, you know she got skillz... Great game Kari....
