Summer Co-ed Softball Greenlake Saturdays

The Midcore division of the Summer Greenlake Saturday League, the four team playoff between Zango, The Wrecking Crew, Canseco's Kids and Honey Nut Ichiros tore across the annals of USL history. The first of two semifinal games, the top seated Honey Nut was pitted against the Kids of Canseco. This hard fought game saw a 9 on 9 match up that ran neck and neck, that is until the third inning when player of the game Jeff Leck, opened up the game with a huge triple that put the honey sweet Ichiros on top for good. Across the field Zango battled the lower seated Wrecking Crew. In this beautifully officiated game, the Crew jumped on top at the start of the game with eight runs and never relinquished control. Scott Collins crushed two homeruns and triple with eight RBIS to lead the offensive barrage to shut down Zango. Now the stage was set for a poetic battle between two very proficient softball teams. In the early evening Honey Nut Ichiros took the field against team Wrecking Crew almost twice their size and shut them down. Then in the bottom of the inning, the best way to start your day, Honey Nut Ichiros, jumped to an eight to nothing lead. Cecilia Cotton was a force on both sides of the ball playing some amazing second base and batting 3-3. After this demoralizing first inning the Crew only scored five runs in the next five innings. Not too bad, however, Honey Nut also scored five runs to keep the lead at eight runs. In the top of the seventh and final inning, with their backs against the wall, the Wrecking Crew materialized five run, but it was too little too late and Honey Nut Ichiros waltzed away with the championship. The Ichiros took their $50 gift certificate and celebrated the night away at Tacos Guamas. Great job Honey Nut Ichiros can't wait to see you at the party.
