Bumpin Uglies rode a 5-1 record straight into the playoffs and looked to win two more games to secure the championship.
In their first game of the playoffs against "Drunken Monkeys," the Bumpin Uglies proved to be too dominant as they won in two straight sets. Starting off slow, it looked like Bumpin Uglies just had to get their legs under them as all players began dominating the court, marching them straight to the championship match against "Call Before you Dig."
In their only meeting of the regular season, Bumpin Uglies fell 2-1 to Call Before you Dig. Wanting to come out with a statement in the first set, Bumpin Uglies instead fell short due to mental errors and frustration. Something had to change. After doing their group thrust to start the 2nd set, Bumpin Uglies found the unity that made them one of the dominant teams in this league. It all started with the defense. Bumpin Uglies moved beautifully on the court as each player covered for one another. Jennifer would come from the back corner to cover tap on the opposite corner as her. Jessica was sliding left and right covering enough ground for three people. But the staple of this defense all started with Sam as he was a complete wall at the net. Call Before you Dig was having the most difficult time getting passed Sam because he bottled up every spiker that came to challenge him. After winning the 2nd set, it was do or die for the final set.
After trading points early in the 3rd set, someone needed to pull away. That is when Jennifer came up to serve, pushing the lead up 15-7 for the Bumpin Uglies. The pressure started to mount on Call Before you Dig, and that is when the Bumpin Uglies capitalized on this opportunity with constant attacks from Kojo. Kojo laid spike after spike, even fooling the defense with his misdirection at the net, send the ball to the open areas on the floor. Bumpin Uglies took the 3rd set 25-13 winning the championship!
Great job Bumpin Uglies! Your tenacity and teamwork was unmatched. Well deserving win!
As the unsung hero for the playoffs, Jennifer played an amazing game to help Bumpin Uglies secure the championship for the league. Her hustle brought her to the right spots to make difficult digs and perfect passes. Jennifer even killed it at the net, being able to send spikes to the other side with great accuracy. Great job tonight Jennifer! Congrats on the title!
Dani had a great all-around game tonight, highlighted by her strong serving performance. Dani was able to convert on multiple serve attempts, her longest streak being 9 serves in a row. Combined with her aces were her bumping abilities. Dani was a complete terror on the court as she was able to get to any spot to retrieve the ball which absolutely deflated a short-handed "Judge Judys" team. She was a complete natural out there and earned the player of the week award.
