Just for Kicks ran and kicked their way through the regular season without losing. An impressive feat considering some of the tough opponents in their league. Being the overwhelming favorite going into the playoffs would be too much pressure for some teams, but not Just for Kicks.
In their first playoff game, Just for Kicks had to battle and survive just to make it to the final inning tied. With all their effort, they pushed across the winning run to walkoff into the championship game.
The championship game would be no cakewalk either. The Alabaster Kids gave them everything the "Kicks" could handle. A back and forth defensive struggle lasted until the bottom of the sixth when Just for Kicks broke the game open to give themselves an insurmountable 3 run cushion. After 3 quick outs in the 7th, the perfect season was still intact and the championship was delivered!
Everyone knows defense wins championships and the backbone of the Just for Kicks defense was Nathan. While officially he was playing right field, it seemed Nathan was everywhere. He covered the same amount of ground as 2 fielders. Unbelievably he set the tone for the game by making the first 5 outs by himself. Anytime his team needed a big defensive catch, Nathan was there. For that he is our player of the week!
Kristina is an all around good and competitive athlete. You can tell she loves to play sports and it showed in her match this week. While playing on an injured ankle that caused her to limp when she walked, she played 2nd base like nobody's business. Her ability to snag line drives out of the air along with her situation awareness and alway ready at the bad to record the out on the lead runner was nothing short of amazing. Maybe even more amazing was her ability to beat out bunt after bunt even on her previously mentioned bum ankle. While after reaching base, her team mates were clammoring for her to use a pinch runner, Kristina was determined to stay on the base paths. What an effort... Much appreciated, Kristina!!!
