Unprecedented.
That would be the one word to describe Sunday's playoffs and championship at Sunset Bowl. Yes folks, the BTB world will be talking about this one for a while... maybe.
In the semis, Big Balls and Nice Racks edged out their opponents Indy #2 for their shot at the title. But who would they face. Unusual Spare and the defending champs Pinpals were locked in heated battle. Jim Skurski of the Spare demolished every frame on his way to a 203 game in hopes of avenging the team's regualr season loss to the Pinpals. However, the perennial all star Paul Ng answered right back with a capped 205 game of his own. It loooked like Unusual Spare could steal this one, though.
A quick calculation of the final score- a tie!
Each team had a pincount of 602, creating an unprecedented three way match for the championship! Highest pincount would determine all, second highest would be second place, and third would get third.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on what lane you were on), it was all academic from then on. Big Balls had worn themselves out in their semi-final match, and once The Pinpals had weathered the initial storm, their experience took over and they were able to beat both their opponents by hefty margins for their second consecutive championship.
Congratulations to the Pinpals- Winter 07 (and back to back!) BTB Champs!
What is it about The Pinpals that they have such a talent pool? Can they be stopped on their quest to win another title? This week, Charley Perrault handed in some hefty games of 161 and 191. Maybe it's the big recruiting program they have. In fact, investigations have shown that half of the team is on scholarship. We knew it...
Paul "Tom Brady" Ng wins this thing at least once a season. We're actually kinda tired of giving it to him but when you go out on a Sunday night, have a few beers, and then proceed to bowl games of 246 and 196 respectively, well, what choice do we have??? Jeez, Paul, give someone else a chance, wyncha!!??!!
