In our first round matchup, Roy Munson's Kids put together a playoff high 636 to defeat Big Balls and Long Pins, who managed a 562 pins. Gary Lai bowled a 203 to lead Team Munson to victory, while Joe's 158 for Big Balls kept them in it.
In our other first round game, Balls & Racks squeaked past Strike THIS by a 12 pins. Henry's game high 176 was just enough to offset his opponent Luther's 167 to win the game.
In our battle for 3rd place, Strike THIS's Adam bowled a solid 170 in leading his team to a 577-512 victory over Big Balls Long Pins.
And finally, the story of the night was Roy Munson's Kids' 632-615 win in the Championship game. Will Braden had a perfect game going into the 9th frame. It was impressive watching such a performance in the final game.
Our runners-up were Balls & Racks, whose surprisingly consistant team bowling keep them in the championship hunt. Only 25 pins separated their top bowler from the team's lowest score.
In MVP news, I must declare co-MVP's to Roy Munson's Kids' Will Braden and Drew Milam. Will's near perfect game lifted his team to the victory in the Championship game. However, it was Drew's 183 in the first game and his 175 in the Championship game that sealed the deal.
I awarded co-Player of the Week to both Will and Drew. Will's perfect game going into the 9th frame sealed Roy Munson's Kids' claim to the title in the Championship game.
Drew bowled solid games in BOTH playoff games (183 and 175, respectively) to not only get his team to the Championship game, but to help them get the "W."
It was a good first night at Imperial - mostly veteran teams, with a lot of bowling skillz and Big Turkey spirit on display. While this warm glow of bowling fun was a pleasure to behold - one young bowling star burned brightest that evening. Drew, of ongoing champs Roy Munson's Kids, had 2 big games, including a 205 capped effort in the second. While his teammates nominated him for his string of 6 consecutive strikes at one point... this bowling supervisor recalls the first beer ticket he won that night for 3 spares. Drew says, almost embarrased 'I got three spares in a row... yeah, it was GLORIOUS." It all made more sense later when the strikes started flowing. Nice job, all around.
