Notes

First Place

Spring Midcore Volleyball at First Baptist Mondays

Coming off 2 close game series, both Po'okela and Morning Missiles were in the zone to each bring a Championship win to their teams. However, in order for this to happen, they both knew it wasn't going to be an victory easily attained. Po'okela started off the first match with a 3-0 lead, until Matt. K from Morning Missiles brought a sneaky tip into play along with fellow teammate Miles with a solid block.
Po'okela continued on to bring the match back to a 9-6 lead, until Miles from Morning Missiles, once again crushed the ball back down to bring his team back to 8-9. Po'okela and Morning Missiles continued rallying back and forth one kill after another and eventually tying the game up to 19-19. After a couple tactful for serves, Po'okela took a 19-21 lead until Morning Missiles came back for the 25-22 win.

While the Morning Missiles took the first match, Po'okela came back for redemption and found it with a 9-3 lead in the first 5 minutes of game play! After an impressive few rallies, Morning Missiles brought the game back up to 8-21, however, Po'okela was not going to take a loss for an answer. After a great save by Sasha and a solid block by Jon, Po'okela brought the score to a 21-9 lead. But once again, Morning Missiles was not going to let Po'okela get away that easy with a win and ever able to bring to score to a close 22-17. But Po'okela pushed back with Chris serving the winning game point for a 25-18 win.

Now with the match count an even 1-1, both teams were ready to fight for their potential victories. Morning Missiles showed they weren't playing around any longer when they started the match with a 4-0 lead. However, Jon from Po'okela squashed their 7-1 lead with a unstoppable kill to bring the score back in his team's favor to 9-7. Po'okela and Morning Missiles kept bringing the point by point rallies, but Po'okela continued to press forward with a 13-8 lead. The kills and stone wall blocks continued onward on both sides with Miles from Morning Missiles continuing his ground rattling spikes and Chris from Po'okela's amazing wall to wall saves. Despite the fiery intense plays, Po'okela was able to bring the score to 24-13 and eventually (after a couple nail-biting plays) bringing home the win for a 25-17 Championship Victory!

Both teams did an amazing job playing their hearts out and keep up great spirits and sportsmanship the entire time. It was a great game to watch and really displayed Underdog league play at its finest. Congrats to Po'okela to being Monday Night at First Baptist's League Champions!

Janet Cheng

Po'okela

Final night at Monday Night Volleyball at First Baptist was full of player anticipation and adrenaline as they all geared up for Playoffs in hopes to become League Champions. For Janet Cheng's team, Po'okela, after 6 intense matches of game play they were able to come out on top as League Champions! While the team as a whole did a amazing job, Janet Cheng really stood out, not only at tonight's games, but throughout the entire Underdog season. Janet's great attitude and sportsmanship during games really set her apart from most players as she was not only quick to give praise and encouragement to her fellow teammates, but to opposing players as well. Additionally, she proved to be an outstanding all around player as well from her amazing serves all the way to her knockout kills. Janet embodies the true Underdog player spirit and really expresses her love of the game of volleyball. She has been a great player to watch over the past few weeks and we hope to see her and the rest of Po'okela again for another Underdog volleyball season. Congrats Janet to being this week's Player of the Week!

Jon Nakasone

Po'okela

This week at First Baptist Midcore Monday's was action packed with big hits, hard blocks, and super saves, however, there was one player who seemed to be unstoppable through it all: Jon N from Po'okela. Jon began his nightly reign towering above the net with his impenetrable blocks and masterminding kills. Jon mapped out the court like eagle scoping out its prey from above. Additionally, Jon's tactful tips and sets helped surge the entire Po'okela team to their 3-0 victory. There's no telling what Jon will bring to next week, but we know we can't wait to see! Congrats Jon on being this week's Player of the Week!
