Notes

First Place

Fall Co-ed Softball at Lower Woodlands Mondays

In a rain-soaked rematch of last year's championship game, Impinj and TapouT battled on the diamond to see who would reign supreme.

Claiming their second straight league championship, Impinj defeated TapouT 10-7.

There's a reason coaches and color commentators around the sports world love to say, "Defense wins championships." Nowhere was this more evident than throughout Monday night's playoffs. Defense was the name of the game as game after game was decided by one or two runs and the team with the better defense advanced to the next round.

Championship MVP Sam Larson pitched back-to-back complete games, including striking out 3 batters in the championship game (his fourth of the night). His teammate Mike made a webgem on a diving, over-the-should grab of a shallow blooper over second base in the semi-finals.

KC did her best Shoeless Joe Jackson imitation by making left field "the place where fly balls go to die." In addition to hammering hit after hit to left when she was up to bat, she absolutely shut down left field with her defense.

Though not advancing to the championship game, Brian Walker of Buzzkill made the play of the playoffs. In a close game he made an over-the-shoulder catch in left field to rob Impinj of a homerun.

Congrats to all the teams and players who made the league and its playoffs special.

Monday, October 1

POTW: Larson, Sam

Impinj

Sam Larson pitched back-to-back complete games in the semi and championship games. Sam found a way to use wind a rain to his advantage on the mound. His pitches really danced all night long, often even looking like a knuckleball pitch.

He recorded 4 strikeouts on the night, including 3 K's in the championship game.

Finally he played some solid defense from the 1-spot.
