As sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, as predictable as the leaves falling from the trees as it turns to fall,we know who we'll see in the playoffs of Imperial each season. The same core group has been in it for literally years now; BJ, Barry, Six, Johanna, Scott, Tina, Kiyoshi, Miye, Marissa, Sam, Peng. They've mixed and matched- alternated a few players here and there. Sometimes they'ved combined forces, sometimes they've been against each other, but one thing is certain, some combination of this murderer's row will be in it when it comes to championship talk. This year, it came down Balls of Fury and 3F Masters, with a pretty even distribution of talent.
Then night started off with 3F knocking off the Poppycoks (no slouches themselves, with a lot of perennial playoff participants), and Balls of Fury finishing off Big Balls Long Pins. However, some low scores in the semis meant Balls of Fury would really have to step it up in the final if they were to have a chance against their long time friends and rivals.
The championship match, of course, did not disappoint, as it came down to the wire. With the game on the line Six could not convert a double mark in the final frame and 3F ended up taking it by a grand total of 16 pins! Barry Nishimura led the way for 3F with his 192, while Sam Sy's 190 for Balls of Fury was good but not enough for the win.
Congratulations on another great season that again came down to the last roll. See you in the winter time!
You can't argue with results, folks. With the season on the line, Barry rolled games of 203 and 192 to give his team it's umpteenth championship and his umpteenth POTW honor. What can we say, except that we were not at all influenced by drinks being bought for us...
Barry bowled a very strong 199 and and 148 on the night. What really stood out is that Barry closed all 10 frames in Game 1. On the night we had 6-8 bowlers who closed 8 frames, but to stay focused enough to close all 10 frames is quite impressive!
