How would we describe Tuesday night's championship between the Bonneville Badgers and Second Fiddle? Just good ole fashioned kickball.
The night started with Bonneville pulling a big upset on #1 seed Stinky Fingers. After Second Fiddle took care of their opponent Turbo Turtles with ease, the stage was set: two teams, the #5 and #6 seeds respectively, getting to the championship the hard way.
As we said, the game did not disappoint. We wish we could talk about huge plays and highlight reel stuff, but the truth was that these teams were both pretty evenly matched, both played great defense, and- to steal a football metaphor- it was a 'game of inches'.
At the end of 1 the score was tied 1-1. At the end of 3, it was 2-2, and so on. Both teams had good catches, and great pitcher/ 1st baseman combos. In the end, the Badgers were able to squeeze in just a few more hits, and move around the bases just a little bit better than Second Fiddle, and finished with a 4-2 victory, and their first championship in 4 tries. Both teams fought hard and had mutual respect for each other at game's end.
Congratulations Bonneville Badgers!
As his team's captain (and main cheerleader), Scott Boone spent most of the season talking the talk. Indeed, with his regular catchphrases of "Looked good on paper!" (usually delivered after a teammate got out) and "Nailed it!" (delivered after a teammate got a hit), Scott hardly ever STOPPED talking the talk. But on this night, Scott also backed it up with a little walk, too. He had some beautiful directional kicks for pivotal base hits and/ or RKIs, dropping them just inside the foul lines. Scott's general positive attitude and humor also kept his team having fun the whole season, and they rewarded their skipper with a big W for a big championship. Cheers to Scott and the Bonneville Badgers!
