The Master Blasters won their first Underdog championship by winning back to back games over the Evil Tangents and the Dingers.
The Dingers made their way to the championship after upsetting the top seed Barking Geckos. The Dingers jumped out early on the Geckos, scoring 5 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 7-0 lead that proved to be insurmountable.
The Master Blasters pulled an upset of their own in the semi-finals. They avenged an earlier 19-0 loss to the Evil Tangents as they jumped out to an early lead as well. Led by Tim Battaglia, who almost hit for the cycle, the Blasters grabbed a 7-1 lead in the 2nd inning. Even when the Evil Tangents crawled their way back, the Blasters would come back to answer with a couple of runs on their own.
More early offense followed for the Blasters in the championship. 5 runs in the first and 6 in the second were complimented by some great defense as they brought home the championship.
The team captain of the champs had himself as the designated hitter in both games. This didn't mean that he didn't help out on defense though. Richie could be heard throughout the game shouting out words of encouragement and strategy to keep his team in the game.
Tom Wilcox provided a great pitching performance and added 3 hits to lead the Master Blasters to a 18-9 win over the Dingers. It was the opening game for the Master Blasters and the win put them at the top of the standing in the new Eastside league at Odle Middle School. Tom's pitching included 4 K's and only 2 walks. Wilcox 3 hits drove in 6 runs.
