Summer Softcore Kickball at Magnolia Playfield M/W

This week's player of the week goes to Heather Hazen of The Pegglers. Heather, who is the captain, the head honcho, the big cheese, the commander and chief of The Pegglers, has been a bit under the weather these last couple of games, but managed to put mind over matter and kicked a deep one for a homerun against the Head Hunters. Her homerun gave her team a spark that they were looking for. Shortly after her homer, the Pegglers went on a run and scored 4 more. Even though they lost, Heather kept her spirts high. We could all learn a little something from this Kickballer. Great job Heather!

This week's player of the week goes to Anthony W of Accidental Grab. Anthony played his heart out in back to back games, providing important runs in both outings. On one play against the Balls Smashers, Anthony forgot to tag up from 3rd and so his teammates yelled and yelled at him to go back. After about 2 minutes of yelling, Anthony decided to make his way back to 3rd, barely making it safe. This was key b/c he scored on the next play. Throughout the rest of that game and the next, Anthony persevered through even though he didn't seem to fully recover from the marathon he ran going from 3rd to home and back:) Great hustle out there, Anthony. And next time remember to TAG UP....you'll save energy that way;) !!

Kirk "Superleg" O'Brien used his power and speed to account for all the runs for One Ball Salute. Kirk was able to get his team off to a great start in the first by blasting a three run homerun. Kirk was called up on again in the sixth with his team trailing, he blasted another home run, driving in two runs and giving his team the lead for good.

This week's player of the week goes to Mat Riddle of the Bada Bings. How many ways can Mat's team thank him for an awesome double header he played? The list is long but here's a few reasons why Mat should be appreciated. For one, he brought his kick a#$ brother who got on base pretty much all the time. Two, he gives it 110% especially in Left field where he caught 1 out of 10 fly balls, which may not sound like a good record but 10% is only 1 zero away from 100. And last but not least, he makes it fun! If the Bada Bings lost 10 to 9 in the championship game where the winning team would take home $100K, he'd still be smilin' and laughin' and spreadin' the cheer. And that's exactly what Kickball is all about! You da man, Mat!

This week's player of the week goes to Matt Mills and his team, Kicked Last. Most of the players on Matt's team were newbees to the league and despite their inexperience, they developed into some fine kickballers by the end of the season. One item that put em' on top was that Kicked Last wasn't all about the New York Yankee recognition...they were there to have a good time. And as it seemed a good time they had. I think every team in the league could take a page out Kicked Last's book. Thanks Matt and Kicked Last for displaying a great attitude everytime you stepped on that playing field!!

This week's player of the game goes to Chris Vair of the team, Accidental Grab. You could say Chris was brave or tough or manly or even border line insane but that wasn't what drove this kickballer...no sir. Chris, only moments before the first pitch, underwent major surgery on his leg. Without hesitation, he stll showed up dedicated and willing to help his team win. "Did that hurt, Chris?" was a common question that was asked during the game and the response you would get is "hell yeah it did", but that didn't stop him from finishing out the game. They lost the game, but Chris came up w/some huge plays which kept them in contention. Way to fight through the pain, Chris. And please, to whoever is reading this, as much fun as kickball is when your doctor tells you to stay off your leg....STAY OFF YOUR LEG! You da man, Chris:)

THis week's player of the week goes to Kirk O Brien of One Ball Salute. Kirk, trying to make a play at second, took a hard shot to the shin from a sliding Head Hunter. The shot was unintentional but scraped Kirk up pretty good. Frustrated at first, he managed to shake it off and continue on. Most dudes in this case, would lay down the sword and surrender. But no, not Kirk. After One Ball Salute's stint in the field, Kirk was up to kick and knocked one to left center for a double. Way to overcome what most kickballers couldn't!!! Great job, Kirk.
