The Marinerds came out in force Thursday night to prove their worth in one of the toughest Underdog divisions. Preliminary rounds pitted Marinerds against Ouch! My Balls!. A solid matchup ensued between the two teams, but Mariners were able to send the knockout blow to My Balls! in the last inning.
Meanwhile, Just For Kicks and Bone City came out on Field 5 guns blazing, with JFK opening up the scoring and Bone City following the bottom half of the 1st with 3 runs. Entering the bottom of the 7th inning, both teams were knotted up at 5 a piece, bringing Bone City's David Fisher to the plate. As his team anxiously awaited the pitch, there was no doubt repercussions of the earlier misplayed ball by Fisher had to be in his mind and his teammates. Would it prove costly? David didn't think so. Erasing any memory of the play (save for here), David launched a home run over the outfielders heads for a game winner against Just For Kicks.
That set the stage for the clash of the titans, #1 vs. #2. Taking to heart the true motto of an Underdog team, Marinerds took their #2 seed as a chip on the shoulder, unleashing an offensive fury for the ages against Bases May Not Be Loaded But We Are. Dominating the game with 100% clutch mormon skills, Heath Brian steered the Marinerds to victory! Great run both teams and good luck next season!

Raw power. Innate talent. Superhuman skill. All of these labels fit Bone City's superb team that showed off their retro sport prowess on Thursday night. Bone City started off the night squeaking by Where My Pitches At? in a low scoring 1-0 win, punching their ticket into the championship. Meanwhile on field 4, Leny's Regulars were putting on a show for the gathering crowds at Lower Woodlands. Leny's had high drama in their first game with a 12-11 win over Kick 2.0. Dylan Grant came up huge for Leny's, booting a 3-Run Homer in the 6th inning to give his team the lead headed into the final inning. Although threatening with runners in scoring position with no outs, Kick 2.0 was unable to muster that much needed run, kicking Leny's Regulars into the semi-final game. Late-inning wizardry seemed to be working on Leny's side after scoring runs in the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings. Andy Evans stalled the Violent Chubbies offense with a masterful display of pitching in front of the gathering crowd behind home anxiously awaiting the championship game. However, they would have to wait in agony as the game continued into the 8th inning. With runners in scoring position at 2nd and 3rd, Leny's booted a single into the outfield, plating one run and sending Andrea Roy around 3rd for the game winner. But Matt Kramer threw a bullet toward home, just clipping Andrea and ending the rally. As the 9th inning came, Violent Chubbies was unable to muster a run in their half, giving room to Leny's Regulars to score the game-winner in the bottom half of the inning!
Bone City was awaiting their chance behind the backstop the whole game, salivating at a chance to own the coveted trophy of a 5th grade sport, Underdog Kickball. They sure made good on that opportunity, dominating the championship by a score of 12-4. Terrific effort by all teams, and a great season!
