Bosworth's Buddies showed up Sunday with their "A" game, and cruised to the Mid Core title. In the semi final game, they were able to build a lead on FF Kingpins thanks to some strong passing from Gabe Coyne and outstanding defense from Jeff Beatey. Chris "big red" Daoust was also excellent on defense, snaring an interception and added several catches on offense.
In the Championship game, they faced the #1 seeded Beef Nacho's, who advanced to the title game with a hard fought 27-21 win over the improving ConVicks. Beef Nacho's scored on their last possession in the semi-final game and then were able to hold the ConVick's without a 1st down in the final seconds to secure the championship game bid.
In the Championship game, Bosworth's Buddies continued their flawless play, opening up an early lead and then cruising to victory. "Big Red" Daoust led the way again, scoring on a Pick 6. Evan Peterson was also a star, scoring on 5 TD catches from Coyne. Mark Haner also had a TD catch and added a PAT. The Bosworth defense kept the usually effective Beef Nacho's offense at bay the entire game, Barrett Speller and Jeff Beatey had key interceptions that stymied Beef Nacho's drives. The great team play ultimately led to a 46-15 victory and the donning of the much coveted "Underdog Champ Shirts". Congratulations to this years Mid Core Winner, Bosworth's Buddies!

Every year the MudDogs are that much older than their rivals, but the added experience seems to get them another championship. In arguably one of the better Jaunita Flag Football season ending tournaments, the MudDogs won two hard fought games and captured another title.
In the semi-final game they were matched against the always tough, Seaburg squad, a team with experience and speed to burn. But the MudDogs were able to force some timely turnovers, including a Pick 6 by Jimmy Haywood, that seemed to turn the tide of the game in their favor for good. The other facet of the game that the MudDogs were able to execute better than Seaburg was PAT's, converting after all their touchdowns, while holding Seaburg down on their attempts.
In the other semi-final game, the Athletes were able to hold off the Freeballers 28-21, setting up the Championship contest.
In the final, both the Athletes and MudDogs started out driving the ball up and down the field at will. The Athletes used their speed and athleticism to catch the MudDogs off guard on the first two possessions, scoring 2 touchdowns. The MudDogs answered with two scores of their own, Mike Park completing tosses scoring passes to Jimmy Haywood and Matt Corn. They were also able to convert their all important PAT's on both scores. The Athletes responded with a score to go back up 22-16, but Park scored on a keeper to tie the game and then threw a pass to Corn for the conversion, making 24-22 at halftime.
The MudDogs got the ball first in the 2nd half, marched down the and scored to make it 32-22. From there the game became a defensive struggle. with turnovers by both teams and defensive stops by both. A major factor in the game was the QB pressure applied by Jim Park, who had 5 sacks and numerous pressures on the Athlete's QB. The Athletes were able to score a touchdown to pull within 32-28, but again couldn't convert the PAT. As the time ticked away, Mike Park was able to find Chris "the portly one" Ahrens for several key 1st downs, taking valuable time off the clock. A beautiful sideline grab by Markkus Ellis set up the last MudDog touchdown making it 40-28. The Athletes responed with a score of their own to pull within 40-34, but by then the clock was the ally of the MudDogs. Another key 1st down conversion to Ahrens, sealed the game and the title for the MudDogs. Congratulations and see you next fall.
