Late Summer Co-ed Beach Volleyball at Alki Mondays

The Transplants seem to be successful in their efforts to adjusting to the outdoors and making their team into a winning unit in the new playing conditions. The sandy conditions actually favored one player in particular, Ted "Scuba Steve" Gormley. Gormley was the king of the dive on Monday night as he led his team to a 3-0 victory on opening night by diving over 20 times to get balls that seemingly were surely headed for the sand. It seemed as if no ball would ever get past Ted and his relentless effort eventually wore down Notorious D.I.G. despite a strong effort.

It was a gorgeous day on the beach and a great day on the court for "Notorious D.I.G". They played a great match and pulled out 3 straight wins. A lot of the credit goes to Liz Mullen with her high flying net play and big swings for points. Her all around defense and passing were big contributions to the team as well.

RJ was an asset to his team this week with his excellent digs. He was able to cover the court beautifully, making up for the fact that Sandtastic was playing 3 on 4. On top of his great digs, RJ was able to set-up his teammates for some great hits at the net that ultimately lead to their 3 game sweep over their opponents.

Despite a wrecked ankle, Megan made her name known on the court dashing and diving at each loose ball.

Kevin Smallwood's huge game, particularly at the net, aided his team in their 1st place finish this Monday on Alki in the Championship round of Beach Volleyball. His lethal spikes proved too difficult for his opponents to dig. His blocks too, impenetrable. An offensive machine!
