Thunder Thighs battled tooth and nail and tackled insurmountable odds en route to their first championship, not to mention it was 90 friggin degrees!
Their first obstacle came in the form of Where My Pitches At? A playoff tested team who had reached or won the championship in all 3 of their past leagues. The game was back and forth and was tied 5-5 going into the 6th. The Thighs were able to capitalize on a defensive miscue and tack on 5 runs. The lead proved to be too much for the Pitches and the Thighs won 10-7 to advance to the championship game.
The next challenge for the Thighs was the Champ shirt clad team of Indiana Jones and the Book of Kicks. Indiana Jones jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st, but the Thighs were able to maintain their energy from their first win and quickly even the game at 1-1. Both teams battled fiercely on the defensive end and it was all tied up 3-3 going into the 6th. Ravi Mikkelsen pwned in the top of the inning and made three stellar catches in spite of being sprained, bruised and scraped in no less than 3 different places. This defensive masterpiece led the Thighs into the bottom of the inning with the heart of their order coming to the plate. They were able to get runners to second and third with only one out when Colin Davis stepped up to the plate. He blasted a fly ball to deep center and allowed the runner to easily score from 3rd; giving the Thighs a 4-3 lead and leaving them three outs from eternal kickball glory. The Thunder Thighs defensive dominance extended into the 7th and they were able to hold on to their slim lead in spite of their opponents getting runners in scoring position.
Congrats Thunder Thighs, you earned it! Wear your shirts proud and good luck repeating next season!
