Summer Rookie Kickball in Fremont Sundays

All the way from BC, Shannon used all her tools to beguile her opponents. From her rocket hard soccer-style kicks and swift base-running, to her crafty defense at first base, she showed great potential. She even showed off her belly ring to intimidate and distract her opponents. Great game Shannon!

Matt straight dominated left field for both of his team's games. When asked why he was such a force to be reckoned with, his teammates said, "He has legs like a gazelle, the heart of a lion, and the wings of an angel." With attributes like that, how could anyone not rip it up? Congrats Matt!

Norma Barrineau provided entertainment for the entire field on Sunday afternoon, making her the player of the week for the Sunday Summer Rookie League in Fremont. Norma laughed, shouted, and played her way into two hours of fun in the Ass Kickers doubleheader. Both teammates and opponents enjoyed Norma's presence on the field, and there is no doubt she was one of the most impressive players on Sunday.

Shorty Yanagawa had a solid day out in helping her team to their first ever championship Sunday in Fremont. She was locked in with her pitcher for relay outs at first, caught a few fly balls, and reached base a few times. But Shorty's most memorable play was all for naught.As a baserunner on first, Shorty took off on a kick only to have it be caught in the infield surprisingly quickly, leaving her in no man's land between first and second without tagging up. The second baseman fired a laser at her as she tried to make it back to first, but she athletically dodged and watched it zing past her head. Unfortunately, Shorty took the overthrow as a cue to turn again and head back for her original destination at 2nd base, where she dodged another errant throw, and then made it all the way to third, sliding in just ahead of yet another throw. Through all the confusion, the fielding team forgot about her not tagging up, and only then finally threw the ball back to first for the out. Shorty's acrobatic display wasn't all for nothing, though- her teammates were fired up by her energy and determination (if not her base-running acumen), and it gave them the boost they needed for a late push to seal their victory and their Championship. Congrats, guys.
